Monster Cable AVS2000

I am thinking of purchasing a monster cable avs 2000. I am running two adcom amps 5500 thru a cary audio design slp-89l. My speakers are sda srs 1.2. With the money spent I am looking at some surge protection and voltage regulation. Are the monster cable surge protectors worth it?

I think that Monster makes a great product, but they do not service any of their gear. I had an AVS2000 that made a grinding noise when I turned it on. Monster's initial response was to tell me to purchase another one. I called back & got a better rep who told me how to grease one of the moving parts. I would never buy another monster power product period. Go with Panamax, they stand behind their gear.

I agree. I've been very happy with my Panamax products.

And they are not as overpriced as Monster.

Instead of looking at the Monster units, have a look at the ExactPower EP15a (www.exactpower.com). You get regulation AND wave form correction. Also, have a look at www.brickwall.com for futher surge protection.

Generally people preach about what they own and how good it is, I will not do that here. I will give my honest opinion on the monster units I have owned in the past and currently own.

A few things on the monster units:

* The AVS 2000 is a voltage stabalizer, nothing more. It does not work as a surge protector, you need another unit to do this. Personally in my system the AVS 2000 made a difference, but I don't think it was worth the money I spent. Even at over 50% off list price, I don't think it was worth the money spent.

* I originally had a 3600 and uprgraded to the 7000-SS. I got both units at employee discount pricing, and was able to resell my used 3600 for the same amount that I paid for it. The difference between a regular surge and the 3600 was big, from the 3600 to the 7000-SS was slight.

* I think the best value one is the HTS 1000 at $149. That being said if you want to go for a nicer unit I would look into other brands, like Panamax, Brickwall, or Equi-Tech.

All in all I think that the basic monster units are very good units, and as you go up you pay alot more for less and less.
