The next step i am prepared to make with upgrading my car audio system will be the addition of two Polk Audio MM2084DVC Subwoofers (8 inch) and Polk Audio MMC 650's. I can't decide whether to get two Polk Carbon C300.2 Amplifiers or one Polk Carbon C400.4 to power these new speakers. Which will be better at powering the new speakers? Or should i go with a different amp completley? Please give input.
System in construction.. :)

Get a pair of single voice coil MM2084's and run them off the 400.4. That will be 200 to each sub which will be a perfect match.

And then what should he do for his MMC650s? Buy a second amp? I think he's only looking to buy one amp.

Oh, woops. My bad, I didnt see the MMC650 thing. In that case, if it has to be between a single 400.4 or a pair of 300.2's then its the pair of 300.2's. That would be 150 to each 8 and 150 to each 650.

Still, the best option would be the 400.4 to the subs and the 300.2 to the 650's.

wow, thanks for the advice, helpful :). Is there a better 2 channel amp i could buy that would deliver a little more 'juice' to my 8's, like a high quality 4 channel that maybe delivers 200 watts per channel? i dont really know what the best option is to do, so i'm open to suggestions. i am sure on the decision of getting 2 8's and a set of 6.5 components. Although, i am confused on what to get - the single voice coil polks (MM2084) or the dual voice coil (MM2084DVC). what is the difference? the price is the same.. is one better then the other? whats the advantage of having dual voice coils as opposed to single, or vice versa? anyway.. confusing dillemma for me, and any and all suggestions will be appreciated. thanks club polk. :):)

The only differenec in SVC and DVC is that a DVC allows you different wiring configurations. For instance, a SVC 4 ohm sub can only be wired in 4 ohms. But a DVC 4 ohm sub can be used as 2 ohms or 8. You can take a pair of DVC 4 ohms subs and wire them in series for a 4 ohm mono load.

The 400.4 is a very high quality amp that makes 200x2 when bridged which is a perfect match for those MM2084SVC's.

wiring them in parallel for 4 ohms would be a better idea... :p

I second the Polk amps. And like Mac said, the only advantage of DVC subs is more wiring options. But if you don't need them get the SVC subs.

If I were you I might consider getting some 10 inch subs instead because they'll go lower. You probably won't be missing a whole of your music by going with 8's instead of 10's, but if space isn't an issue I'd recommend one or two 10's instead since they'll reproduce some lower frequencies. I was originally looking to get a 8" sub but have decided on a 10" for that very reason.

i went ahead and got the MM2084DVC's with a C400.4, and got another set of MMC650's and a C300.2. i plan on having one c400.4 powering the mm2084's and the other c400.4 powering my 2 sets of MMC650's and the C300.2 powering the MMC5250 components.

Wow. That's going to be an awesome setup. Where are you planning on putting the amps?

No, you take 1 sub with dual 4 ohm coils and wire them in series and youve got 8 ohms. Do that twice and youve got dual 8 ohm subs which when wired in parallel will present the 4 ohm load.

*edit* Nevermind, I get what youre saying. You thought I meant wire the 2 subs in series with the amp.
