rti8, cs2, and surround

I'm relatively new to home audio equipment and certainly a novice in the context of choosing the right speakers. I'm seeking advice on what type of surround speakers to get.

I have rti8 speakers for my left and right mains. My center channel is cs2, and perhaps that's where I've gone wrong-- implementing a monitor speaker with the rti8's. My receiver is harman/kardon avr630. I'm now ready to invest in surround speakers but I'm not quite sure what would match best with what I have so far.

Your suggestions for surround speakers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mark

Hi and welcome to Club Polk.

rti4's, rti6's fxi3's fxi5's will go with your rti8's. I prefer the fx' speakers for surround as they create more ambience, especially for movies. I even prefer them with music as long as they're set to the bipolar mode.

For the $ i would go with the fxi3's or fxi5's.
and if you can, upgrade your cs2 to a csi5. :)

Thanks for the advice! That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking. I definitely want to upgrade my center speaker (cs2) to a csi5. The big question is whether to go with fxi3 or fxi5 for the surrounds. There is enough of a price difference, in my opinion, to make it worth mulling over.

What is the size and shape of your room? This will be a good indicator for surround type and size.

Also, what subwoofer are you using? If you don't have a very good sub, the larger surrounds will help the lower end out a smidgen.

I do not yet have a subwoofer, but plan to get the PSW404. Do you think that's too big or just right? My room is kind of an oddly shaped room. It is longer than it is wide. The dimensions are approximately 24 x 12 feet and the ceiling is 9 feet.

You can always benefit from a bigger better sub. if the $$ is there.
