FS: Pair JBL 4311B Control Monitors $200 + actual shipping

I've decided to sell my beloved pair of 4311b's which I bought in the early 80's. I'm the original owner although they were floor models according to the salesman. He was right when he told me they would last a good 20 years. I have the original manual and had the original receipt until recently but I can't find it now so I may have chucked it since it was getting hard to read. No boxes.

These are highly sought after by jbl enthusiasts so I don't expect them to sell here but wanted to give you guys the first chance. Orion has the value at $450 and from a brief search on ebay they go for $250 and up.

One woofer has a 2.5" crack which doesn't affect the sound and could be glued by someone more knowledgable than me. I layed one speaker on it's side near a patio door for a while so the moisture spoiled the veneer on that side. On one grill in two places, the fabric has become unglued 2" in length. The other grill is near perfect except the wood is cracked where the wood is only 1/2" wide. One dust cap is dented which I didn't know until I saw the pic.

All the surrounds are like new and have never been replaced.

They've never been stored away in the garage or even the closet.

I prefer local pickup of course but would charge actual shipping.

For those interested, you can repair these woofers easily with speaker dope, and they are also plentiful on ebay.

This is the 'studio monitor' version of the famed Century L100, and I (and some others) actually think it is the better speaker of the two.

Good luck with the sale, I've got 2 pairs here that I need to have a couple dustcaps replaced, and get on down the road. Do me a favor, and shoot me a pm when / if you list yours on ebay, so we don't give each other local competition.

you don't see many speakers whereby the woofer is on top of the other drivers.. does that give it a unique sound?

Thanks Russ, will do, I plan to put them on a'gon in a month if they don't sell here so list yours anywhere you want.

Mentally the tweeter placement bothered me so I used to play them upside down but I never paid any attention to the sound. That way the tweeters were close to the radio shack stand-alone liquid cooled tweeters I used to put on top of these Those were some bright tweeters. Probably why the sl2000's don't sound bright to me.

They were designed to be placed on top of the control console, in studio. The woof on top, put the mid/tweet at or closer to ear level, in studio.
