Digital tuner with analog tv

My family is still living in the stone ages of broadcast tv with an attic antenna. We are having trouble getting PBS and under pressure of the wife to do something about it, I am contemplating getting a digital tv tuner because the digital signal is supposed to be strong even though the analog signal is pathetic. Has anyone tried using a digital tuner hooked up with component video or s-video to an analog tv? Would it do a good job of converting the digital signal into something the analog tv would be able to handle?
Thanks much for any help with this problem,
Scott

as far as I know, as long as the tuner (I'm assuming this is sattelite tv or digital cable) has an output that will go to your tv, you will be fine. the converstion from digital to analogue is done by the tuner, not the tv. just tell the sattelite cable company/digital cable company what kind of hookup your tv has.
you wont get high def signal unless your tv is HD capable, so dont pay extra for it until you have a tv that can view HD signal.
you will notice an improvement, not to the extent as someone going from reguar to HD, but you will see a picture improvement none the less.Living Room 2 Channel -

Thanks for the reply.
I did get a over the air digital tuner at Wally's World and it does make a noticable difference - even if it is displaying what should be a 1080i or 480p signal at 480i. Only thing is the box cost $200 so I am trying to decide if it is worth keeping.
Does anyone happen to know if there are any DVD recorders or Tivo like things that would have a digital tuner built in?
Thanks again,
Scott
