Vintage receiver for preamp?

I was wondering about the mechanics of using a vintage receiver as a preamp. I have a Carver TFM-25 amp and a Sansui 2000X receiver. If I hook the amp into the pre output on the receiver does it bypass the amp in the receiver or does it add it to the Carver? Is there any negatives to this? It sounds great to me. This is a temporary setup while I am waiting on a preamp. Also wondering if a cd player sounds the same through an aux input vs a cd input? This receiver is too old to have a cd input.

Inputs should be the exact same (unless it is phono)

If the Sansui has Pre-Outs, then they are bypassing its amp section.

And yes, as ledhed states, all line level inputs are the same, i.e., Aux, Tape, Tuner, etc. Phono inputs are not line level.
