I have been looking at box`s for my 12" MOMO`s..

The "vented" enclosures have much more volume (sound) than the closed box`s...although it may sound a little more.."sloppy"?
Hard to tell...
It will be in the trunk , so I`m not so sure I will notice it...will I..?

Would it be okay to use a ported box with these sub`s, or should I get a sealed box ?

I might only use one sub because of room....should I go ahead and use both ?
What is the best way to go here.?
Opinions please...

well what kind of music u listen to? Sealed is basically the way to go with the Polk Subs, but some have done Ported also. From what I've learned, and heard from others, sealed sounds the best. I have 2 10" momos in a sealed enclosure, with 500watts going to them, and for the type of music i listen to, such as hip hop, reggae and rock, they work out good.

    depends what momo's you're using.

    generation 1 and 2 momo's are not ported box friendly - don't even go there. 0.66 or 0.88 for 10's or 12's respectively, sealed... with 400 - 500 / 500 - 600 watts rms respectively as well.

baby momo's are ported box friendly, although i have not done one yet.

generally speaking though, experience tells me that when i've done ported boxes, i've gained a more 'peaky' frequency response --- a 'virtual bass boost' (in a manner of speaking) at anywhere between 40 and 80 hertz, depending on port length, diameter, etc. I have had great success porting MTX subs. They get very loud... but, again, the quality of the sound is much to the lacking of my taste... sealed is the way to go.

Although - you are in a trunk. which really kills everything.

dun dun dun -- IDEA... yes, we have ideas in my world every now and then.

Cut a hole - say the size of a cutout for a 6x9 speaker in the MIDDLE of your rear deck, between the two coaxials in your rear deck. That will allow the bass from the trunk to vent into the cabin more effectively. In reality - a sealed box, inside of another box (the trunk) with a port (the hole in the deck) is a bandpass box... but because the outer box (the trunk) is so large, you will get the true soud of a sealed box. I did this in the cadillac. I put two 8" subs in a sealed enclosure under the rear deck... then cut a hole in the deck right above them and allowed them to basically "shoot" right into the cabin. I put a 6x9 black polk speaker grille over the hole and it looks fine as wine. to spruce things up, i then built the amp mount in front of the speaker box in the trunk -- so when you open the trunk, you've got lots of cargo space and all you see are three big amplifiers on a stained and varnished piece of cabinet grade wood, bolted down to the car, covering all the **** under the rear deck.

I thought about that , but the rear deck (BMW 325i/M3) is real small, and it won`t fit..
    MM124`s (12")...

I listen to smooth Jazz to Metalica, and almost everything in between..
I do not listen to rap or hip hop or anything like that...just isn`t music to me, but to each thier own..

I read the Polk spec sheet on the web site and they suggest using a sealed box, but the ported ones sound way better at the store..more volume and more tone...

I have a C500.1 amp to drive the sub(s) with..
If I use two subs will I need another amp..?

I have (2) C300.2 amps I could use ...but if I remember , Mac said the 5oo will be fine..

I also was listening to the db`s at the store, and while they sounded good, they just weren`t enough sound for me..

I guess I will go get a sealed box tomorrow,or Friday, just not sure if I shouls get a single or double...

    whadda ya think..?

do em both up - build 2 separate boxes -- that way if you want to go with just one then you can just pull one out.

I `m going to get a sealed box, and a vented box and do my own test in the trunk..

I was reading somewhere here on the board where it was said that having one sub with alot of momo power was almost the same as two momo`s with the same amp..

    Is that true..?

hmm... well, with a given amount of power, putting one sub or two on it will sound about the same... that is, one sub with 600 watts will sound only a little worse than 2 subs with 300 apiece...

So I can save space and just run one 12 with the C500.1...right.?

therein lies the confusion... the 500.1 will make over 350 watts to a single 12, but nearly 300 to each of two, so using two 12s with one 500.1 will actually make it louder...
