buy a projector for my home theater room. My question is, should I buy a DLP projector or a LCD projector. These are the two projectors I have in mind. Tell me what you guys think.

I've always though your HT room screamed out for a projector. I know it sounds crazy, but I would try a couple at the same time, with liberal return policies to see which fits your needs best. There aren't enough demo rooms set up with the low-mid level projectors. Most demo rooms have 7k-10k models in use.
DLP vs LCD has been debated to death over on AVS forum with an even split of supporters. BIZILL, I did, I purchased the Mitsubishi 62" 1080P DLP which will be going to the upstairs living room. The family and I really only watch dvd's in my room downstairs and all other viewing is done upstairs. So, the other day my wife said she wanted me to sell the 53" Pioneer upstairs, put the Mits upstairs and add a projector downstairs. I haven't made a final decision yet but the thought has definately crossed my mind.Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!

Might want to ad the new Panasonic 900 to your list. I have the 700 and have been pretty impressed by it. High def looks spectacular and good DVD transfers look good too, using HDMI upconversion with my DVD player.5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect. My boss has the Sony VPLHS20 and it looks absolutely awesome. It was the first projector I have seen in an actual home theater environment and it was incredible. I don't know how much difference the screen makes for a projector, but the screen he has is Clarion HDTV Screen - 106HDTV HDG Black Frame.
I think the Sony Cineza® VPL-HS51 replaced his model. He has had his for a couple of years and the bulb is still good in it and he still loves it. If you have the cash - it is the model I would go for.

Been doing a little more research. Where I have to mount a projector will roughly have a throw distance of 11'. Recommended screen size is like 76" for both projectors. In all reality, would it even be worth the purchase do to the fact that I have a 62" know. Help me out here guys.Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!

The size of the screen is only relative to your seating distance. A 100" screen is dinky in an arena and your 76 inch screen would be overkill from 6 feet. Remember that a prjector screen is horizontal measurement not diagonal, so compare oranges to at least tangerines.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Looks like with the Sony you can get a 106" at about 11' ,using the zoom and with a screen gain of about .8. I just purchased a Sanyo Z3 and it's about 11 to 12 feet to the screen. Although it's only92". But the picture is fantastic.

Okay, how exactly do the zoom features of a projector work. And what exactly is .8 screen gain. Do any of these effect a picture quality?Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!

can You use the projectors for everything, or just DVD`s ?

The zoom feature is normally an analog zoom ring on the lens that allows you to fit your picture to your screen from a variety of distances.
I use my Infocus X1 for cable TV with great results. Just remember that you need light control during the day to get the most out of a fpj. My 80X45 16:9 inch screen measures 93" diagonal.
You do need to determine what type of viewing you are going to use the most to determine screen ratio until everything is widescreen. I used a 92X69 4:3 screen in my last house since I didn't have HD cable and had a bigger room to work with. Now my 80 inch screen is just great from 11 feet away.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

EVERYTHING!
I have an Infocus X1 and have my computer, DVD player, XBox, and Gamecube all hooked up to it at once. My computer has a MyHD MDP100 card in it that received over the air HDTV broadcasts and can even record HD in time. It's sick.
If you have the room and light control for a projector, don't consider anything else.
