Question about Video Upconversion for the Pioneer Elite VSX-56TXi A/V Receiver

My question is, should I be able to have all video sources connected to the receiver whether it's s-video or component video run from the receiver through component video to the television?

Right now the dvd player is hooked to the receiver via component video and then component video out from the receiver to the television. I have had to hook the s-video up directly to my television from my digital cable box in order to get a picture. My digital box does not have component video.

In order to view cable TV I have to use Video 1 on my television and to view dvd's I have to use Video 2. Is there a way to view all sources through the same input? It looks like it has this function but I can't seem to figure it out.

Any help is appreciated!

Yes but I am not sure if you tried running the s-video through the receiver and it didn't work or if you think the input type must match the output.

I have a VSX54tx which should be the same as far as video switching is concerned. I have my Phillips SAT box s-video out and Sony DVD component out hooked up to my receiver and run one component out to my TV. This setup works fine for me. The is no other video connection to my TV. My SAT box actually has component out but the colors were way too over saturated for my taste, the s-video looks much better. The DVD looks best with component.

Hey MADGSF, yes I did try running the s-video through the receiver by way of the TV/SAT In as per the manual but could not get any video output on my television that was hooked up from the receiver through the component video monitor out.

Did I hook it up to the wrong input??

does your receiver perform s-video up-conversion to component. being that it's an elite, i'd presume so.... yes it does.
