And mabey this is the question I needed to ask.....If I am used to my rt55is and have had them for the last 3 years how big of a step up is it to the rti 10's or 12's beings opinions differ on the two so much? I am gathering that the one with more base drivers "12" is going to sound richer and more heavy on the base thus no huge need for a big sub, and that its better as a stand alone for music while the other "10" is the same as the "12" if you have a beefy sub, but not all that by itself for music?

... because I believe in the more speaker you have the more clean volume you will get, correct me if I am wrong, at louder volumes.
Tain't necessarily so. Sometimes a lesser model in a line out performs one that "outranks" it.
    For example:
    - You can get a pretty good debate going around here on the LSi 7 vs. 9.
    - After Magnepan launched it's 1.6QR, they ceased making the older, bigger and more expensive 2.7QR. The 1.6 stole all its business.

Again, make the time to audition your candidates.

    Good one, Dennis.. :D

Edit: Can't help you on your RT's... don't know them...

Your are right with the bigger the tower for music, the bass is fuller. I find for movies though, no tower is truely big enough for reference level bass, since the impacts, and explosions in today's digital formats go so low, some into the teens (hz).

This is of course room and volume dependent though. I agree with the earlier post about getting as much speaker capability as possible, since you can't add gear to make a speaker perform better, only replace it. If you can swing the 12s, I would do it.

BTW, you have one of the better bookshelf models ever made in the 55s. I still find myself pulling them out to listen to even though my main speakers are SDA 1Cs. The 55s are one of my all time favorites.

I've heard the 10s and 12s and getting them vs the RT55is is a step BACKWARD IMO. Spend you money on a very good sub and be done with it. I have the RT55is in a room larger than yours and they go as loud as they need to. Don't waste your money on the Polks if all you want is volume. Go CV.
