SDA 2b Crossover Caps and CD Player Upgrade

My Sonicraft (12uF and 0.1uF) caps, Solen (20 uF and 39uF) caps, and Mills resistors for the SDA 2b crossovers arrived last week. I'm getting used to the sound of my modified CD player before I install them.

After some research and advice from the DIY Audio forum, I replaced the opamps in the analog output stage of my CD player with four sockets and AD826 opamps. This really transformed my system. Much cleaner, more open, and more detailed - top to bottom. Brighter highs and punchier, cleaner lows. My CD player needed the additional brightness and vocals were in your face. Now it sounds much better and vocals are back on stage with the rest of the band. The cost was less than $25 for parts. I paid the local TV repair shop $40 to install the four sockets as I wasn't brave enough to solder something this small. Huge improvement for $65!

I hope to do the crossover upgrades over Thanksgiving week-end.

It’s a Yamaha CDC-745 with a YAC514LSI D/A Converter (Pro-Bit, S-Bit Plus). The analog output consisted of a pair of JRC 2068DD opamps (balancing circuit), a low pass filter, and a pair of JRC 5532D opamps (output buffers). It was smooth but veiled sounding. I replaced all four opamps with AD826AN-ND opamps. It’s like someone lifted a blanket off of my speakers! I'm sure there are better CD players but the improvement is amazing for the money.
