Ok got the kit the other night. I hook it all up and nothing works. @ reasons, they have not connected me at the box and or my home security system doesn't have a filter. I called the alarm company they can have someone come over free of charge but the filter for the alarm since they use a different size of cable I must pay 65$. GRRRRRRRRRR

Your alarm system uses RJ-45??

I don't know, it looks like a reg phone cable but the end is much bigger.
What does using that cable mean? -
It's just odd to me -- but, I'm no alarm expert.
I've had several homes with alarms and they used RJ-11 (single line) or RJ-14 (two line), which are the same physical size, connections from the alarm control panel to the phone jack. An RJ-45 can be used for a multi-line (more than two) phone system or ethernet connections (you probably got a cable with RJ-45 terminations in your kit to go from modem to computer) and has a distinctively rectangular end profile.
Perhaps the alarm system is networked to a main control panel in your building complex? Anyway, sounds like a "GOTCHA!" by the phone company. I've never seen an RJ-45 DSL blocker, but they must have such a thing. -

My phone company and all our jacks are good they sent us several filters for those. The alarm box has that RJ-45. So I think it's the alarm company "Gotcha" scam. Any hoot I dont want to return the DSL for cable, I'd rather pay 65$. -
My winter project is too replace all my phone wiring with CAT5 and upgrade the wall plates at the same time. I may also build in some future expansion with A/V but that will be room dependent.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

So I am all hooked up, I copied a couple movies and CDs. I am about to burn another CD, I put the blank in the drive I hear this mini crunch sound. Now my burner can't even read a regular cd or dvd. GRRRRRRRR. Off to exchange this puppy tomorrow.

bandwidthoplace said my connection is 4.7 megabits per second, storage is 577.9 kilobytes per second, and the subjective rating is awesome!, lol.
McAfee said my speed is 556.32kbps which is 69.54kBps.
All our computers at home share a RoadRunner cable connection.
Glad you got most of your new computer stuff working, Willow. Hope you get that DVD drive figured out!George Grand wrote: »
