I have been eagerly awaiting for over a month now for Rush to release their new dvd R30. This is to hit the shelves tomorrow, Nov 22!

Saturday my wife and I were in SAM's club to pick up a few items and what did I see sitting on the end cap? RUSH R30 DVD!!!

My wife knew I had been waiting for this dvd for quit awhile now, and was shocked when I didn't toss it in the cart.
What pissed me off was the fact that they were selling it before it's official release!!
Now, maybe Sams (walmart) knew something I didn't? Maybe they got a special deal like Best Buy does sometimes?
I had to stop at Best Buy to see f they too had it on the shelf.

No surprise here...Best Buy did not have it on the shelf and when I asked the floor manager why, he stated the obvious..."we can't see it until Tues".
When I told him Sam's had it on the shelf he exploded! Seems he has seen them do this before and has had a few battles about it. He was NOT a happy camper.

Funny how a retail giant like Walmart can piss on any code of ethics and do as they please.

I will be waiting until Tuesday.

    Poor Best Buy.

Maybe it has something to do with Sam's being a members only wholesale shopping club??
They may be able to do so since it's not an open to the public or retail.

I have pre-ordered movies from Walmart since they normally have the best price on release date; I remember getting the DVD's before release date. 100% sure that this was the case for Blade Trinity, and almost positive it happened with others......

maybe sam's club was offered an earlier sale date as an agreement for carrying the product. Big businesses always have angles..

They can get in trouble for releasing before the street date. I used to work at a Blockbuster in college, and we constantly had to report Wal Mart for breaking street date. There is some 1-800 # you can call to report them. Some organization for movie studios enforces the street date rules and they can limit distribution to stores who frequently violate the release date.

It wasn't Wal-Mart, it was Sam's Club. Wholesaler, not retailer. There might be different rules for releases when it comes to PRIVATE wholesale clubs such as Costco and Sam's Club. I don't no for certain, but I'd have to think with the way the artists, studios and record labels are going after anyone that "breaks their rules" that Sam's would be a little smarter than to do something like that. I guess it could be just the one Sam's and it's idiot Gen Manager, but I doubt it.

Wal-Mart/Sams may be breaking some agreement with the studios/distributors but they are breaking no law. It's between them and the studios and the studios need Wal-Mart/Sams Club a lot more that Wal-Mart needs them. If Walmart never sells another DVD they will be ok. My guess is that Wal-Mart/Sams sells more DVDs than BB/CC combined. They may the only retail distributor for many parts of the country. Any punishment of Wal-Mart by the studios will be "token" at best if at all. It's just business.

I agree that any punishment would be minimal at least. I wasn't trying to say they would be breaking any laws by 'getting into trouble,' but that they could get penalized in some way by whatever distributor/organization it is that oversees this stuff. All that happened when we called about someone breaking street date was that they had to pull the product off the shelf until the official release date.

    In most cases...

Video Stores and Retailers alike get the movies one week in advance to get them prepared...

I got a friend at a movie & music store that sells me any movie or CD I want 1-2 weeks in advance if I come in and ask for it. I don't really see it as an ethics issue, but that's just me. I'm sure I'm justifying it because I'm getting hooked up, but like I said it's pretty much on the DL. I just like getting it early, not going to run around and brag about it. Although I did brag here once when I got the EE LOTR DVDs 2 weeks early. :p

The release date is just there so that one store doesn't have the advantage over the others. I'm sure Sam's Club had some reason they were able to sell it in advance. I wouldn't really get to wrapped up over it though, no reason for you to feel bad if you had bought it. Much bigger things to worry about, IMO.
