Make a sub cable shorter

I have a sub cable thats too long, I only need 8 ft, the cable I have is 16 ft. I dont want to coil the cable up ,might cause trouble.Would it be a good idea to cut one end & make it shorter & put on a new rca end? thanks
My HT set-up Panasonic front proj, 120 in ws screen, ATI amp,Integra 9.8 pre-pro, 2 Polk rti150, cp 1000, 4 fx 1000, Pioneer blu-ray 2 SVS sub pb 12-ultra 2, & Paragon popcorn popper. ps 3 Coaster leather HT recliners.

    It's harder to make it longer than shorter. You never know what the future holds. If it were me, I would neatly coil it and hide the bulk behind something.
