We have two cell phones. We don't have a land line. Currently we have Cingular for both phones. The plan my wife is using has 1000 anytime minutes per month with rollover. We can't add mobile-mobile, and we frequently reach our limit of minutes or go over.

I'm looking at alternatives for at least her phone, because her plan expires in January.

Does/has anyone use(d) Cricket as a cell phone service? Right now we are paying $40/month before taxes and fees. The Cricket plan is $45/mo with unlimited local and long distance calling. We would keep my phone with Cingular for traveling, since that is one of the FEW plans that works at my parent's house in NW Oklahoma.

I checked the cell phone coverage arehere , but didn't find anything about Cricket for my area.

Let me know if you have (had) it, or if you know someone who has, and what you/they thought aobut it.

Thanks.

Zach

Never heard of Cricket, but IMO, Verizon is the best. Coverage always varies, though.
    Ludicrous gibs!

Yeah, I forgot that Cricket isn't available everywhere. From what I can tell, Cricket is geared to be an actual replacement for your home phone. You have unlimited local calls, just like your home phone, and now they unlimited long distance(I think that part is pretty new). This all works in your "local" area, so for me, these features are only available around Memphis. I don't think anyone else offers this kind of plan around Memphis.

My Cingular phone uses a nation plan, so the travel part is covered. At $45 a month, this might serve our needs a little better than her current plan. I was just curious to see if there is any experience here among the forum.

I'd say look into Sprint. Their plans vary with your usage, and some markets have an area wide plan. In my area, that plan is $40 a month for 1000 min, and it adjusts for you, say she uses 1200 min instead, your only gonna get charged and extra $10, $5 per ever 100 min. All of their plans did that when I was selling them, about 2 months ago or so. If you go with them, look to Sanyo for the phone itself, awesome phones.

What up Zach? Yep, me and the old lady have Cricket phones, and we burn em up daily with no extra charge. I love mine, and they were bad a few years back about dropping calls often, but they are a whole lot better now. We can call everywhere for no extra charge. I call Atlanta, Chicago, northern Mississippi, and my sister in Iowa all the time. It is no catch. The calls are free. If your area is covered, get it. You can look it up on cricket.com. There is a overage map.
