Never heard of it. Is it a smaller version of the IS300? The IS300 is the only Lexus I'd consider owning.George Grand wrote: »

Drive a beater. Save your money.
I'll come right out and say it, and I get bashed all the time for this and I really don't care. I can't understand why people spend so much money on a vehicle that really doesn't affect their life, in a positive way, by that much. Seriously...what makes you happier? Going from a $20,000 car to a $40,000 car, or sitting down with a nice beverage listening to a $3,000 2-channel rig? I'm probably going to guess the latter. I can't recall ever hearing someone say they can't wait to get off work to go drive their Lexus, but I can say that I've heard, on many ocassions, someone anxious to get home to watch a movie on their new surround sound, or on their new television etc.
Before I make a big purchase I sit down and think...when I lay down to bed at night, will buying **** really make me that much happier? Is it really worth working 6 full months longer to drive a nicer car? Again, this is just my thinking and I don't let others' vehicle choices frustrate me, but I'm just trying to look out for my fellow Polksters! -
people have different interest...simple as that
you'll probably never feel their joy and they won't feel yours but both are happy

I'd personally rather have a nice car and know not a thing about audio!! But, that's just me. And of course I'd rather be into both.
aaharvel - That doesn't look too bad!`George Grand wrote: »

Excellent, are you majoring in Political Science?,Seriously,, that was a good reply,as someone once said to me,,"whatever floats your boat"JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

I saw one of those last weekend at the International Auto Show in Boston. Pretty sweet car.
Maz, I used to think like that too, but with an hour drive each way to work every day, I'd much rather have something RELIABLE (aka not a beater), and if I had the money for something especially comfortable and well-handling I would pay it.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
One of the best vehicle purchasing decisions I ever made was going with a brand new BMW 3-Series in 1999. Then I sold it, and put the excess cash towards a 2002 BMW. Then I sold that one, and with the excess cash bought all the wonderful toys for the ThugStang.
Notice the words "excess cash" above. If you buy a car that holds its value and has the opposite effect of 'being upside down in payments', you end up with a nice chunk of change each time you sell. -

its a sound theory. its not wrong, but I have to drive a nice reliable car. I dont have to have the newest or what not, just good. I drove my 96 Jeep Cherokee sport for 10 years before I got the Volvo. I got the Base Volvo S40 2.4 without the turbo (with a 5 speed) in september. I love driving the thing. I like how it looks. Its reliable, safe, and it didnt break the bank.
I would still say, put the money on what makes you comfortable driving, and dont pay money just for prestige. the leXus IS250 seems like a great car for the money.Living Room 2 Channel -

The Flow Lexus in Kernersville is a NICE dealership. Considering how I used to work for Nissan as a salesman before I went back to school, I was frankly blown away. No high pressure, no "oh we lost your keys" scenario. They literally treated me like a family member.
ok enough of that ****: The car.
very impressed. The thing is certified ULEV II, which means when it comes to the environment it's gold. I told the salesman Greg the base model 250 with no options would be the only thing I'd be interested in when the time comes. I testdrove both the 250 6speed & 250 6speedauto.
In the end I settled for the 6speed auto. The auto comes with paddleshift; I was skeptical at first but it actually works very well. This thing gets 24/32 for gas mileage with the 6speed auto. The manual only gets 22/28~ that's a first.
interior was really something to see. Even in base form the thing comes absolutely loaded (minus things I don't need like power sunshade, mark levinson, laser cruise swivel headlights and all that b.s.) The plastics and trim are the highest quality i've ever felt in my life. You shut the doors and it sounds like a damn bank vault. Seriously. The base Stereo System (Pioneer)was STILL kickass with 13 spkrs. and has a hookup for an I-Pod. Some of the nicest leather i've ever sat in, big sunroof- not one of those tiny jobs that pass themselves off as such, and my favorite: you start the engine by inserting the keyfob and push a "START ENGINE" button followed by a blip from the tach. Nice.
On the road it's the quietest car i've ever been in. Period. I spent the better part of an hour with the car and my expectations were exceeded. The MSRP on this thing in base form is $30,000. Haggle and your looking around $27,500. Not too bad considering a fully loaded Accord & Camry which are only slightly larger cars are the same price with less stuff, an inferior driving experience (FWD) and worse gas mileage; and unlike the Accord/Camry, the Lexus offers traction control/brake assist, better safety features and it eclipses them both in terms of re-sale value.
~ed. I was pleased. This will be the car i'm getting. -

sounds like you did all right AA. entry level luxury marks have really come a long way. the first time I saw that new IS I loved it. I was very impressed by the design, and its a lexus, so no reliability issues either. sounds like you got a great price for it. congratsLiving Room 2 Channel -

That IS is NOT meant for anyone over 5'10"............
I sat in one once and decided to not ever consider them again......oh well.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Man, I live no more than 6 minutes from the Kernersville Lexus dealership. That's where my dad bought our Jetta TDI.
Glad you like the car! Hope you're able to get it soon enough. And that is interesting that the auto gets better mileage than the manual.George Grand wrote: »

I can only conclude that headroom was sacrificed for the low, wide stance~ to appease the sporty crowd: i.e. Me.
the commercials for this thing are everywhere. The more I see it, the more I want it. -
The IS250 can come with all-wheel-drive as well. Check it out on the Lexus website.
Wow! 306 horsepower for the top-of-the-line entry level Lexus? Acura needs to up their horsepower (their top-of-the-line RL is "only" 300 horsepower).
