Opinions? I will be matching it up with a pair of R40's, R10's, and a CS175i, and eventually adding a DVD50. As you can see I'm on a limited budget, so would this be the optimal choice for a $300-$400 range?

Thanks! :)

I have an AVR 320 and it it quite a beast, the AVR 120 is basically the same thing minus 10w/ch and a few other piddly things. All I can say is that I LIKE mine.

I have an avr310 and love it. It could use a little more power for music but for home theater it's great.

Be careful if your thinking about buying a dvd50. I was going to buy one too but heard that people were having a lot of problems with this player. HK is trying to work the bugs out but it doesn't look like it's going too well. Check out the reviews at www.audioreview.com before you buy.

Aye, it has all the power I need for HT use, but for music I added an outboard amp for dynamics sake.

I totally agree on the dvd player - watch out...
The store I work at has had just about every one we've sold returned.

HK swapped out my DVD5 for a DVD50, because it was having problem after problem. I have been using the DVD50 for over 3 months and with the 2.0 firmware installed I have not had a problem. The 2.0 firmware is standard in units manufactured after December 2001. I have notice many stores still have the units manufactured before this date. They have also added a feature or two with this upgrade. For the price I got the DVD50, I cannot complain. For the receiver, I have the AVR500 and have never had a problem in over 2 years, but I do not know anything about the AVR120. Good luck.

I went ahead and got an AVR-510. It was an open box special, and I got it for about 60% off of retail price. I just couldn't resist. :)

Thanks for all of the info everyone. I think I'm still going to get a DVD50. From what I've read and heard lately, the software updates have fixed just about all of the problems.

Congrads on the receiver. :) Let us know what you think once everything is set up.

On the dvd50...I went back and looked at the reviews again too. It does look like things might finally be straightened out. Good luck with it and please let us know how things work out once you get it.

Roger that. I've got the basics set up on the reciever. I'm using my PS2 for DVD and audio right now, which is nice. I was able to listen to my first HDCD last night. I just wish that the 510 could do HDCD in one of the surround modes. :\

So far so good. I have quite a bit of tweeking to do on this thing before I can post any real opinions. It's been close to 10 years since I've made a purchase like this, and things have changed quite a bit since then! I'll keep you all informed.
