I am contemplating a possible speaker change. The Vandersteen 2ce Signature's sound interesting but not sure if it would be an upgrade over Paradigm Studio 40's or not. Maybe just different as the cost is pretty close
at approx $1200 vs $1500. Monitor vs floor standing. Any thoughts? I will be checking the Vandersteens out at a local shop soon, just looking for opinions if any.
Thanks!

With the right amplification I love the sound of the Vandersteens for 2 channel work. The only other speakers that I can recommend as a different sound for similar money would be a pair of magnapans or the larger SDA's.

The Vandersteens are the most emotional speaker I have heard. They actually made me feel closer to the music than any other speaker I can think of. Well worth a listen if you get an opportunity.

One thing though, they are not very efficient and need high current so while they will sound ok with most amplifiers, it takes a pretty beefy one to bring out the magic.

I have the Vandersteen 2C's (older version, mid eighties perhaps?) Oddly enough, they look EXACTLY like the 2CE sig. external appearance wise, they didnt change a friggin thing! I know because the guy I cought them from got the 2ce sigs and they looked identical,
    anyway
they sound great, laid back, clean/uncluterred and refined sound. especially good for jazz, blues, and the lighter fare. I hear the later Vandersteens have better tweets and crossovers to match, but I never heard them or the Paradigm, so my help is limited I'm sure. I'm thinking you should pick up a pair of used vandersteens, just to get a feel for them.

I have never heard the Vandersteens, just always wanted a pair of those 2s. The cost difference will be level as you need a pair of stands to go with the 40's. I don't like the Paradigm V2's, the tweeter is to bright for me, don't know if that softened on the V3's that are out now. Good luck.

Thanks for the replys! If I did get these I'm not about to start changing out components again so they would have to work with a 50wpc tube amp in a small room. This is a very powerful amp though and I think it would work OK. I'm looking forward to listening to them though.
