SDA-2B's

Ok.. On Monday I am going to order 4 RD0198-1's to replace the tweeters in my 2B's. In the original manual that came with the speakers. It lists the tweeters at SL1000's. Are the RD0198-1's going to fit in exactly? Or in other words, are the dimensions of a SL1000 the same as a SL2000?

Eventually I want to replace the drivers. It lists that it has 3 MW7500 drivers. What is the current number for those animals?

Check post #15 in this post for info on the replacements for SL1000 and size issues.

If you have two SL1000 tweeters and three mid drivers per cabinet, then you have the original SDA 2's and not the SDA 2B's. The replacement tweeter you want is the RD0194-1. The mid drivers are most likely MW6501's, but you should remove them to double check. As Mike pointed out, you will have to make alterations to fit the new tweeters, regardless.

First off, hi Kristi and welcome fellow SDA fan to the forums.

    http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/service/parts/partslist.php3?item=drivers

Also, having four tweeters, the SDAs you have are the original model SDA-2 not the SDA-2B. The 2Bs were the second evolution up from yours. IE: SDA-2 '83-'84-'85-'86; SDA-2A '87; SDA-2B '88-'89-'90.

And we all need to know..... do you have the SDA interconnect cable for them?

Also, all of the SDA 2 revisions had the SL2000 tweeter, not the SL1000. They should be MW6501 drivers, which have been replaced by the MW6503.

Ya sorry about the confusion with the title of the post. I know I have the 2's, I bought them in 86. I wish I would have had the money for the 1's. What was the big 6 foot SDA that came out in 86 or 87? It wasn't the SRS was it? Anyway, I heard them in the store when they first arrived. They were an awesome speaker!

If I could ever find a pair of SRS's I would buy them. Guess I will have to keep looking and in the mean time upgrade the my SD-2's!!

Keep an eye on the Flea Market here on Club Polk... there's a lot of SDA auctions posted on eBay and the like, and some people sell SDA's on here from time to time, though we're more likely to hold on to them... tightly... with both hands.

I don't know where you are located, or how old this listing is.

Well I ordered the tweeters today. They should sound great once I get them installed!

I actually use the SDA-2 as my front speakers in a home theater. They sound great there. I have an old CS-100 center channel (don't even start about this, I know it is the lowest of the center channels). I am toying with getting a CSi5 center channel, the bad part is there are NO Polk dealers in the area. So I cannot listen to the speaker ahead of time. Everything thing I have read about it is good, no bad reviews at all. Anyone know about them?

Anyone know what Condensers and Resistors are stock in the SDA-2's crossover? I have ordered the schematics for the speakers.

The best voice matching speaker in Polk's current speaker lines with the new silk replacement tweeter for SDA's is actually the LSiC. The CSi5 is a great speaker, but a lot different sonically (very bright) than the ring radiator tweeter on the LSi line or the new silk dome tweeter. Polk customer service may be able to put you in touch with a dealer in your area. Otherwise, Onecall or Crutchfield are good sources with Crutchfield having liberal return policies.

Remember to keep tabs on which wire went where. Sometimes they are marked in some way and sometimes they aren't. It should only take about 15 minutes to do the swap.

    Good Luck

Oh and don't torque down the screws TOO much, as it can cause the holes to get stripped out ;)

Replaced the tweeters today. They sound awesome again. Even better than new! I noticed one of the tweeters had solder all over the terminal, like Polk had yanked it out of a speaker. No modification to the cabinet at all.

Does anyone ever want or buy the older tweeters. I have all four, one of them is no good though. The other three are fine. They are SL1000's

Someone may need/want them. List them in the site's Fleamarket section.

Only you can say how much you want to get for them but they have been going for anywhere from free to around $25 each if this helps to narrow it down for you. :)
