How would you lik eto have your bids displayed on your desktop? Sounds interesting doesnt it... It updates every min! And monitors the time/bid/ Items images (via a click) and if you wish to view the auction all you have to do is dubble click!
What do you think? It uses very littel resorces 45 megs ram and 50 megs page file. And it can do many neat littel tricks.

45 MB or RAM - no thanks
I've got a gig in my machine, but I need every bit of it with some games...45 MB is WAY excessive for a small proggy like that... -
you think?
I got 2 gigy so I guess I dont notice its missing. Its a really neat app. Like amurixze. ect. but its prety new. http://www.widgetforge.com/ -
2 GB of RAM? Jesus people. Save some money for your Ramen noodles.
I hate having garbage programs like that running, whether I can afford the memory / CPU hit or not.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
45 MB isn't a lot of ram, even for me at 1 gig. However, a small program like this that takes up that much memory is usually one of two things:
1 - Written very poorly, meaning that it's not just memory that it's taking up, but also processing power and overall system performance.
2 - Loaded with other crap (spyware, adware, virus, trojan, etc) that loads without your knowledge and runs in the background when the program runs.
Either way, I'll pass... -
Yeah, I;m hard pressed to find programs that take use of my full gig right now, but some of the video editing software I use is a memory hog...
-
Ramen noodles owns you! I love them things noodle/and apps. I take no performance hit what so ever. but then again I got a AMD 3500 at 2.8GHz, 2 gigs at 2-2-2-5 T1 timings and 2 raptors raid 0, 2 400Gigers raid 1 for my movies, 2 160 seagates raid 1 for my MP3's. and a 6800 Ultra OC'ed. and a godlike 20.1 inch LCD dell 2001fp that coast me a grand alone
ok, now I'm braging/.... :cool:Polkmaniac wrote:Yeah, I;m hard pressed to find programs that take use of my full gig right now, but some of the video editing software I use is a memory hog...
BF2 uses a ful l2 gigs and 1.5 gigs of my page file  -

I assume you're talking 12 gigs of HDD space, not memory? How big is your paging file?
How do you know you're taking no performance hit, what are you using in terms of a benchmark tool to test performance, 3D Mark? And my point wasn't really the performance hit that you take, my point is that a little app like that that consumes that amount of resources is typically either junk software or loaded down with extra crap...
How much difference did you notice with 1 Raptor vs. 2 Raptors running in RAID - which size are your drives? -
Also, what are you using to Skin Windows, and where did you get that theme, themesxp.org?
-
We're all very impressed by your computer's specs. You obviously have nothing else to spend your money on.
BF2 has been proven to be a resource hog, plain and simple. Yet another, poorly written piece of software.Ludicrous gibs! -
just use ebay toolbar. i don't, but it's worth a try. is your app something that only runs on desktop or viewable with a click in the icon tray?

Polkmaniac,
That 12 gigs was actualy a "l" and a "2" My spelling again..
As for the raptors. Its an old and long debate... Depending on the chunk size they can bench extreamly high or just to the standard 65megs sustaind. a chunk size of 4K will bench in at a burst of 230+ megs a second and a sustained of 70- 80 megs a second. However theres masivly increased fragmentation.
I honestly cant live without them, there is no comparison I can make to discribe the diferance in responce and transfers.
My HD list.
2 raptors 36 gigers
2 400 gig hitachis
2 160 gig seagates
1 40 gig hot swap
I am using WB 5.2 beta and its curently not availible yet. It uses transparencys everywhere! and thats something stylexp stil cant do to this degree, The new bonding method with windows is greatly improved and its memory footprint is non existant! Simply put its fully intigreated! If you want this beta you can PM me... -
I just downloaded the kWidgets and it's actually pretty cool, kind of like the Mac widgets, (they are native in OSX)

BTW, widgets are cool. They are part of the Mac OS since the last version, Tiger. There are thousands of them for download now. Most are pretty useless though. ebay ones can be pretty handy though. -
WOW! that AVR 630 sold for $380 on ebay! wtf... I missed out even with the widget! I should of looked at my monitor more often

My first "system" used a cassette tape for storage. 2k memory in the box, those were the days.>

man...that's just a few bucks, eh? Wicked system, though! I assume you're using a water cooling system? And just why in the world would a mouse/keyboard combo cost $300?! Are the prices for the HD's separate or for all of them? (I.E. Is teh $270 for each raptor, or all of 'em?) What kind of case are you using? It's been a while since I've looked at computers, so I'll probably show my ignorance with this next question, but what's the 'core' of your AMD (newcastle, barton, etc.)?George Grand wrote: »

This is why you never buy PC parts when they just come out. Here's what I just put together for CHEAP:
ASRock 939 mobo - $65 (KILLER mobo for the price)
AMD Opteron 146 (1MB A64) (2.0ghz, running at 2.7ghz = 4800+ speeds with stock cooling) - $160
2 gigs of OCZ platinum - $210
eVGA 7800GT - $320 (running at 470/1200) (splurged on this one)
OCZ 520w power supply - $100
Raptor 74gig HD - $140
Used Sony CPD-G500 21" flat CRT mint condition (2048x1536 res) - $150
Antec 1070 Case - $60
Achieved a 3DMark05 score of 8,123.
Not too bad for $1295 -

Water cooling = Yep
HD's are in pairs so thats the price for both
The key/mouse also theres EC2's in there, and a $40 buck mouse pad
The core is a winny. 3500's come in newys and winnys and another newer core ( cant remember name) -

Now, mind if I pick it apart to show you where you went wrong?
Opteron=registered ram=added clock cycle=high latency's=that sucks!
Raptor 74 giger=slower then 2 36'ers=same price used
well, thats all I can pick on since you didnt mention your sound card.. unless your useing onboard! Then I can pick on that all night long! -
Dude, Opterons are sooo much better than A64s. They are A64 chips with 512k more cache, they're rigorously tested because they're server chips, hence why they overclock so well. For $160 I got a chip that will take out a $650 FX55. If you don't believe me, look at my 3DMark05 score. Most guys with regular non-OC'd A64s are getting about 6500-7000. Also, check out any overclocking website. Everyone is using the Opterons. Most places can't even keep the 146s in stock.
As for the HD, I just wanted to keep with one to use less power, less noise, and well...it does the job
Oh, and I forgot about the sound card. I use a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS with the Kx drivers installed, so it acts as an active 6-way crossover for my computer speakers.
http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?skip=1 -
x drivers are very stable for me. Been runing them for a long time now.
Edit: Hey, whats your rams throughput? how many gigs a second? got sisandra? -
Christ, Maz... he's pulling you into a dick size comparison test, here...Ludicrous gibs!
-
Josh, thanks for the link to WB you sent...
But knock it off....
You have a badass computer OK! it's the best one EVER, NO ONE will ever be able to beat you, yours is the best EVER! You may have a better machine than Maz, but you spent over $4000, he spent just over a grand. If we set your computer next to his, is it going to perform 4x better - I doubt it...
Wanna compare HT or 2 Ch systems? -
I didnt ask to compare. I asked because I am honistly curious how the 1Meg L2 cahc performs on the optron. It will out perform mine for shure! So I have no reason to compare it to mine...
-
I didn't read any attitude into Josh's posts...I don't think he's wanting to get into a competition here. I, for one, am also curious.George Grand wrote: »
