Roomfull of Blues - Live at the Ram's Head

We had the opportunity last night to hear one of our all-time favorite groups again. DYN-O-MYTE stuff!
ROB has been cooking up solid, roadhouse blues for over 35 years. I first saw them live in the mid-70's and have made scores of gigs since. Despite numerous personnel changes throughout the years, they maintain a very unique sound - largely due to the influences of Rich Lataille (on alto and tenor sax), a 35 year veteran of ROB, and one of my favorites in the line-up and 25 year veteran, Bob "Bubba" Enos (trumpet). With relative newcomer Mark Earley (bari & tenor sax), ROB's horn section has captured six consecutive W.C. Handy awards.
Another notable newcomer is keyboardist Travis Colby. Remember that name. He's a young man that will unquestionably make his mark in the genre.
There's not much more to say about guitarist Chris Vachon than WOW! His feel for the blues is amazing and ROB ends each set with what they call "guitar time" where Chris plays four piece with drums, bass, and keyboard backing. You'd be hard pressed to find a better blues guitar slinger in a quartet line-up. He's also a masterful writer and producer (co-producing eight ROB albums and producing their last four.)
The first thing you feel when these guys take the stage is their absolute love for music. They're bubbling with energy and enthusiasm and can't wait to get the show rolling. And, once it starts rolling, you become totally involved with their music. I got a chance to talk briefly with Chris and Bubba after the gig. I told them how much their love for music fills the room when they play. Bob said "thanks man, that's what it's all about for us!" Chris said "it's our life, the life we chose - and if you're feeling it that solid, it makes us all feel like we've made the right choice."

The RH is a good scene for music, it has been from day one. The next Polk Mini-Fest should be held at that joint....what do we have here? 7 or so?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
