I was in a house the other day, and when i say house, i really mean, a freakin' huge mansion! Something like 6 bedrooms, 14 baths, kinda place. Well anyways, in their main work out room, they had Theater Research speakers i believe. I had never heard of those, and wanted to know if they were good enough for such an incredible house??? BTW, he did have Polk audio ceiling speakers in his sauna... i thought that was nice ;)

Anyways, just wanted to ask and see if you guys knew anything about these...

Theater Research = White Van speakers. A con game through and through. Junk materials, junk drivers and junk crossovers. They give you phony sales brocuhres and list trumped up websites and then tell you that somebody "bought too many" or they were "unaccounted for overstock" and tell you that they will let them go to you for a screamin' deal. When they list prices for sets as high as $12K and tell you they will let them go for ~$600, the deal looks good.

Check them out on eBay and such. They have a website too. Pretty much poo. Some rich dude got snookered pretty well. then again, they are in a workout room and how much critical listing can you do to Sweatin' To The Oldies?

Ha. i wondered as much... they also had them in the master bedroom with one of their 21 televisions. pretty crazy that with that kinda money, you wouldn't make sure you were getting the very best. oh well. thanks for the info.

i guess i should return my set for $500 i just bought? :p

Yes, a friend of mine got snookered into buying a set. He has a set of Polk Audio RTi70's too and thinks that the TR Poopstains sound better. I think he only thinks they sound better so he doesn't have to come to grips with the fact that he got ripped off.

They sound OK at lower volumes and they have some brightness in the high end but when you start cranking them up they start farting and cracking easily.

While back I saw a guy selling a full set of LSi's on ebay LSi15's, LSiC, LSiFX's... buy it now, like $1500. Seemed like a deal, but I was suspicious. Check the history, I see he sold another set the week before. I get in touch with the buyer on the first set and turns out the a55hole had sent:

Theater Research Speakers!!! Sorry- your LSi's were out of stock, but these retail for even more!

Buyer was not amused and lucky for me I got warned off.

Yeah, he called the cops, but apparently it got a lot messier since the guy actually sent something. I thanked him for the tip, offered to deliver an **** whopping if the seller was in NC and that's the last I heard.

In Kansas, i believe you could still charge the guy with fraud, since what was agreed upon was not delivered, but instead a completely different product was delivered. Interesting.

I prefer the good ole fashion cop work... My ASP and no camera ;)

Honestly, I think that if a substition clause was not part of teh auction information, the seller is liable. He should have asked first if a substition was OK. If not, he either produces the won speakers or refunds the winning bid.
