Setting up X-Over Speakers

Hello,

I'm writing from Buenos Aires, Argentina. It's a pleasure to be in your site.

I would like to know what's the best setting of my speakers.

I own a Harman Kardon AVR230. When I'm setting up the best configuration for my speakers, i don't know what to do.

In my "Speaker Setup", i choose "X-Over" Mode; so I can select the best speaker limit in "HZ".

This is my speaker configuration:

Front: Polk Monitor 50
Center: Polk CSi3
Surround: Polk Monitor 30
Subwoofer: Polk PSW202

The "classic" configuration is set to:

Left/Right: 100 hz
Center: 100 hz
Surround: 100 hz
Bass Manager: Global

It may be a easy thing for you, but I really don't know how to set the best performance for my speakers.

Also, I would like to ask you what speaker would to recommend me to have a 6.1 system; i'm listening now @ 5.1 speaker configuration.

I apologyze about my poor english =)

I'll be waiting for your answer.

Thank you very much.

Greetings from Argentina,

Nicol

Hello Nicolas! Welcome to Club Polk. First, if you are using the On Screen Display (OSD button on your remote) make sure all speakers are set to "small" on the Harman Kardon 230 receiver.

Second, leave the bass manager on "Global" if you don't want to further complicate things.

Third, try putting all the speakers to "80hz". That is the accepted 'standard' so to speak.

Finally with the subwoofer, hook it up with an RCA patch cable from the "SUB OUT" jack in the back of your receiver to either the "Left INPUT" jack on the back of your sub, or the "LFE" jack on the back of your sub. Then, simply bypass the subwoofer's own crossover by switching to "DIRECT".

As far as a 6th speaker (for your 6.1 back surround) I recommend a Monitor 30. I know they're only sold in pairs but that would still be your best bet. You can always keep the other one in storage if one day you decide to upgrade to "7.1"

    Hope this helps you out!

    Hello =)

Thank you very much for your help =)

I would like to post my rack pictures, because I made it myself. How can I do? I can help others to make their own.

Thank you again, I can't believe you answered soooo fast :)

Upload pics from digital camera to the computer, then when posting, click on the "manage attachments" button towards the buttom. This will open up the browse window so you can select the pics you want to upload.

Also check the DIY (do it yourself) forum here.

    Oh, before I forget...

PSW202 has a "valve" to switch these HZ...

I have it in 3/5 of the total (i don't know how to express in English) :)

    I think it's over 120hz aprox.

Is it good? What do you recommend me?

    Thanks again,

    Nicol

Try switching it the 'valve' over to 80hz. It might take away some of the blare of your sub.
