Looks like winter season is coming and it's time to move to the winter sports. I just started snowboarding last season and have only been out a few times with my new stuff so I'm really looking foward to riding the slopes soon  I have a season pass to Grouse Mountain so hopefully I'll be able to get up there at least twice a week then once school is out for winter break I'll be practically living on the mountain Right now grouse has about 70 cm base, so they should be opening soon. Here are some pics of the mountain that were taken yesterday. ~link~
Anyone else enjoy any snow sports?

We do a little ice fishing and of course some skating & hockey on the outdoor rinks. Yellowknife probably has a dozen or so outdoor rinks that the town maintains throughout the year and well as the Sportsplex which offers 2 indoor rinks.Michael

I guess getting snow up there (yellowknife) isn't a big deal since you have all the freakin time Last years snowboard season really sucked because of the lack of snow but with a base of 85 cm as of today it looks like this year won't be half as bad. Learning to board on ice, grass and boulders last year wasn't too fun so getting snow early in the season is going to make things a bit more fun

Winter in Seattle sucked last year. Terrible year for the ski passes. Luckily, we're off to a great start this year. Might see what I can find in the way of snowboard gear now that I can afford it.

Depending on where you (michael w) live in BC, you may get more snow than we get. Actually, Yellowknife's annual accumulation may surprise you. Most people, even Canadians, have no idea of the climate in Yellowknife. When the Arctic mass moves down, it is actually too cold to snow. We are well below seasonal temperatures for this time of year (currently -6) when it was probably -20 to -25 this time last year. Global warming.Michael

I never knew that... Here in Richmond we have snow for about 4 days of the year but up at Grouse Mountain ("the peak of vancouver") they get a bit more.
Shizelbs, what kind of gear do you have now? I'm using a chicks Morrow board that I got for twenty bucks with pos LTD bindings, Sims boots, protec helmet and Iris convex green goggles (grayish / green / yellow tint to them). I know the helmet isn't exactly cool but after bashing my head on ice a couple times I figured it'd be a good idea
couple pics of my board... it was completly white (top and bottom) but a friend of mine is obsessed with flaming things so I let him loose on it. It has a couple massive gashes and really needs a waxing but isn't too bad for $20 -
Nice flame job on that thing.George Grand wrote: »
