I'm trying to find the engine specifications of a Volkswgen Vento GL 1994 (1.8L), I tried everything with no luck :mad: so maybe one of you guys can light me up a little bit
I want to know things like HP, number of valves... etc!

Yes, it was called a Jetta most everywhere :
From Wikipedia :The Volkswagen Jetta is an automobile manufactured by Volkswagen. It is essentially a sedan version of the Volkswagen Golf. Until 2005 the name was only used in North America and South Africa, as it was dropped in Europe in 1991, when it was replaced by the Vento, which was in turn replaced by the Bora in 1998.
Specs for a '94 Jetta should be very easy to find.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

Thanks people, but I think the Jetta is not quite the same as the Vento... it is in the outside but not in the inside/engine...

There won't be much difference as long as the engine is the same (read-on however). I know in North America we are offered only a few engine choices and trim levels, while in Europe and other countries they have more than a dozen iterations of the Jetta/Vento/Bora. But the engine desingation should be the same for each continent. So chances are if it's a 1.8L there it's basically the same as the 1.8L here. Although many countries have different emissions standards so for instance the on board diagnostics (OBD) systems may be different for each country. I know North America uses OBD II for that year Jetta), which cna be a real pain in the ****. Also don't forget California cars are still different yet than other North American auto's.
So what's the point to all this drivel . If it's a basic engine problem you are having, parts and operation should be pretty standard. If it's emissions related or electrical then you would need info on your specific model and the continent is was built for. I know several years ago many European countries adopted the same emission standards as the US so they could build auto's ready for export without having to build 2 different emissions equipt versions of the exact same auto.
I know for a fact with VW it's a night mare becasue outside the US there are many many model designations. 1.4L, 1.6L, 1.8L, 2.0L 16v, 1.8L turbo, 2.5L 5cyl, TDI (diesel), VR6, VR4, W8, W12 just to name a few off the top of my head.

I'm not aware of VW making a 3v per cylinder engine. If it's the 1.8 turbo it's a 20 valve engine 5v per cylinder. HP on the 1.8Lt is anywhere from 150-180 depending on year and engine mangement. Also some years they offered (again outside N. America) a 4 cylider 16v motor, but I think those were 2.0L blocks.
The std (non-turbo) 1.8L engine was not offered in North America, for that model year we (N. America) got the 2.0L long block cross-flow engine which is 8v (2v per cylinder) & roughly 110-115hp. Beyond that I can't help much regarding engine designations outside N. America. Check for some British sourced web sites. I collected most of my info over the years in magazines, like CAR, BBC Top Gear and other assorted mags from Europe.

that's really helpful H9... I think the Vento i'm lookin at is the 1.8L Vanilla... which is not good because it only has 8 valves and 90HP. A 2.0L Jetta would be a lot better I guess...<|>
