I've been working alot lately. I'm a union pipefitter, and in this trade you get it while the gettin's good.
Well the hours have been crazy. I did a nuke as a valve repair foreman for two months, the last 4 weeks in shutdown on nights. 7 days a week, 13 hours a day minimum. 2 days to reverse my sleep cycle, and I rolled right from that to day shift on a refinery turnaround.
When I got to the refinery, I came to WORK. Well, someone found out I was on site and the next thing I know I'm a piping superintendant on days over one of the units. This called for 13 hrs, minimum. I haven't had a 13 hr day yet. Last night it was a double, I just rented a room to get the extra sleep.
I pulled in the lot this morning, and there was a crowd at the gate. I walked up and asked what the hell was going on. One of my fitters told me two men had died last night at 11:30. Maybe ten minutes after I left...Oh ****....
It seems it was nitrogen asphyxiation. one man was being concientous about his job, the other was trying to save the first. Bad decisions were made, but God will be the one to pass final judgement. One guy was 24 years old the other was 63.
The details will come out, but the fact remains. And there, but for the grace of God, go I.
I wish my kids were here. I just want to hold them...
I've heard people say that we union craftsman are overpaid. Well, I beg to differ. I somehow think the next time I hear that, the reaction won't be so placid.
Thanks to all of you, too, for being who you are. It feels good to be alive...

I'm at a loss for words......Political Correctness'.........defined
"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t-u-r-d by the clean end."

Anthony, I'm sorry to hear that. Wow, ten minutes after you left, too. Call your kids and tell them you love them and will see them soon. Hopefully SOMETHING positive can result from this, but I know it won't replace their lives. Don't let it get to you, your job is dangerous enough without thinking too much. Are you the one that has to call their families? I hope not, but if you do, I know that you'll do it right."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

I've seen Cops do notifications for accident victims that die, face to face. It blows.
Ant, thank god your allright.
this may sound a bit on the cold side, but look at the hard facts as to why they died. Look at there decisions, bad or good, see where they went wrong and Learn from it. its the only good that can possibly come from something like this.

Im sorry about you fellow workers, I think thats the way the work place is now a days. Im a medic, everything is a blue ball emergency, but when we get there its bull$hit. Several of us have been hurt, none killed. I think theres too much pressure put on workers in every field of work, too long of hours, too much rushing. Again terrible news about fellow workers, becareful! My HT set-up Panasonic front proj, 120 in ws screen, ATI amp,Integra 9.8 pre-pro, 2 Polk rti150, cp 1000, 4 fx 1000, Pioneer blu-ray 2 SVS sub pb 12-ultra 2, & Paragon popcorn popper. ps 3 Coaster leather HT recliners.

I've worked hours like that in my non-lifethreatening endeavers and can't see how you can be 100% all the time. Stay safe and when you start to feel less than 100% back off. It's important. Sorry to hear of the two fellow workers.
