I just purchased the Onkyo 696 receiver, but it's too big to set on top of my dvd player. I know it's usually not a good idea to set anything on a receiver unless you want it cooked, but I've heard that higher quality receivers run cooler than cheapies (id my sony). So will it be alright to set the dvd player on top, or should i make other arrangements?

Who knows, it may not be a problem, but I'd never do it. I never put things atop vented electronics; the vents are there for a reason, I figure. The Sony would have ingited, for sure.

Not to worry. I stuck the dvd player on a little stand next to the tv stand anyway...just be on the safe side. Your response reinforced my decision. No since overheating my brand new receiver AND frying my dvd player in the process. Thanks for the input.
