SRT vs RT5000 opinions?
I'm posting this thread because of the SRT system that is currently being auctioned on ebay. Like many on this forum, I've drooled over the SRTs for quite awhile but I've never heard a set and often wondered what the reasons would be to put in the effort to grab a set.
I'm asking out of ignorance here and honestly want to know from those who've had the pleasure of listening to the SRTs. Can those of you who have heard a set of them compare them with the RT3000's or current Polk speakers? What kind of amp does a person need to drive them? I'm asking because I live just a few hours from Vegas where they're located......

I dunno what to say, really, the SRT is probably the most impressive thing I've ever heard. It defines effortless sound. The RT5000 is cool, no doubt, but it's not SDA.

At the time I used my preouts with a amp. I am now in a new house with a new system. I have wanted to post a family photo of all the speakers. I'll try for this weekend.

Thanks all for the input. For now I am going to stick with my current system as I don't have the funds needed to purchase the amp upgrades needed to power the SRTs. My newborn has diverted funds away.... I will just enjoy the RT5000s and add an SVS PB12-Plus/2 sub when $$ is available. That will do until I can do a set of SRTs justice.____________________________________________________________

I've found a sub isn't exactly necessary with the RT3000s. They go low, and that's a total of 600 watts of sub power. Only reason to get another sub is for low end extension.Brian Knauss

dpowell Hi i have the rt3000p front speakers a cs1000 center and an svs pb12plus2 sub. The extra bass you get from the svs is worth every penny. if you can get one it will be money well spent imo. i did comparisons with my system playing the movie open range. i was using a polk psw 550 sub and the rt3000s and then with the svs. i thought it couldnt get much better untill i heard it with the svs. your original question imo i think the cs1000 and the fx1000s are better center and rear surrounds than what comes with the srt system however i have not owned the srt. i feel that if you added the svs you wont want to make any more changes for some time to come.

My current setup is the preamp with the sub channel shut off and high level inputs to the sub amp and then the parallel connection to the top cabinet. I've played around a little bit with a dedicated sub, but I've found it hard to sound good with the amount of adjusting available and no current measuring equipment to help out (crossover on RT3000s and the sub, gain adjustment on the RT3000s and sub).
But as always, if it sounds good to you, go with it.
Guess its time for me to break down and get an SPL meterdpowell wrote:I assume you are refering to using the RT3000 subs for dual purpose; both stereo bass as well as the LFE channel? I found that when I used both the line level and LFE inputs on the subs that the bass seemed to be less precise and more boomy. Maybe I just had them configured improperly. I currently use the speaker level output for the top cabinet and line level output from the amp to the sub amp. I'm just looking for something to output the LFE channel cleanly and at the same time have enough power to keep up with the combined power of the two RT3000 and one cs1000 subwoofers.Brian Knauss
