Just finished watching October Sky and I think it's pretty good. A little older than me playing the fifties music and it was based on a true story.

A lot of that movie was filmed right here in Knoxville, TN. Many of the extras and at least one guy that had a speaking part (in the science fair scene) are friends of mine. The the high school scenes are filmed at my old High school and the scenes at the science fair are at a building where we used to play basketball. It was originally to be titled "Rocket Boys" but the studio did not like that name for some reason. It was really cool to see people and places you know well in a movie."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais
"For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible." - Stuart Chase
"Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago." - Bernard Berenson -
I have watched the movie a number of times and it is really good. At the end when the rocket cuts to the shuttle liftoff the bass is huge. (I remember thinking "there is no way a model rocket should have that kind of bass...." )
Quite the enjoyable family-friendly show.

The movie is based on the book The Rocket Boys. Another vote for a great family movie that can inspire quite a few young minds.

This is a great movie that I think is underrated!
I think "The Rocket Boys" would have been a better title.2 Channel:

Great movie, my son and I really enjoy watching it together -- he's almost ten and wants to be a "rocketist" when he grows up. I also have the "The Rocket Boys" book signed by the author.
