Who would be interested in seeing the return of the SL2000 Silver-Coil Tweeters to Polk's Parts Department?

It kind of perplexes me that this tweet is not available. It would seem to me that Polk should make it a priority to make it available as so many speaks used it.

Maybe we can talk our friends :) @ Polk into getting us a special purchase of them. I would gladly take 1-2 pairs for replacements and backups. I just hope they still have the tooling to make them.

It is strange that polk still has most of the old drivers available. It is even stranger that they don't have the most important one (sl-2000) available!

I just bought a pair of 1A's, The tweeters were shot, so i'm replaceing them with the new SL2000's that polk is sending. The new ones are supposed to be the exact same specs as the originals. Except the dome material is'nt made of the clear plastic. I will post my findings on these new units. I ordered a pair of the 2500's for my CRS's but they were not as crisp and detailed as the originals.

I look forward to reading your findings.

Does anyone know if the original 2000 were built by Peerless for Polk or were they built in-house?

    Well,

Much like my SL2500 review, this new replacement for SL2000 tweeter seems to follow the same quality. If your looking for a replacement of a non-SDA polk tweeter, I think these would make a suitable replacement. As far as an SDA replacement they were too flat in response to produce the crisp sound field to match the originals. The originals were more efficient, these seem to require more output to start creating the cross talk holography. I played several movie scenes that have faint sounds that seem to be enhanced using the SDA's. In the movie "Predator" with scene where the first batch of guys get killed, there are flies that collect on the bodies. Most speakers will not reproduce the buzzing sound and you will never notice them. My CRS+'s will create those sounds with exceptional clarity almost as if they were buzzing around the TV. These new tweets did create the sound effects, but with a more flat and uneventful response. Looks like us die hard SL2000 silver dome fans will have to pray for miracle on the hopes that Polk will redesign the new 2000's to be more efficient (pigs fly). So covet your originals and enjoy them to their fullest.

I give the new tweets 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

    Have a better one,
    JR
