I am currently finishing my basement, and the area I have planned for the home theater is approximately 13' x 17'. I am currenly wiring the basement for surround sound, and I will be placing a pair of FXi5's that I have on one of the 13' walls. I am looking for opinions on how far these speakers shoud be spaced from one another. I am thinking about 8' apart, or would I be better placing them about 6' apart?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Are they going to be the only surround speakers in a 5.1 system? It may make a placement difference if you will also have side surround speakers in a 7.1 system. If it's just 5.1, I'd say space them 3 feet from each side wall (measured to the center of each speaker), meaning 7 feet apart. They would be set to bipole rather than dipole as rear surrounds. If they are in a 7.1 system, they should be closer together, maybe 5-6 feet apart.

i assume since you are talking about spacing apart from one another that the 13' wall is behind the seating area. with your wide room that seems to be a good choice. in that case, how wide is your seating area? i would think you would want them as wide as possible jsut due to your room size.

    5.1 or 7.1?

Anyway, here is a pretty good recommendation on both 5.1 and 7.1 surround placement:

I would base the width of the speakers depending on your distance from the rear wall.
