And if you buy one share now it will pay for itself within 65 years. -

Check Ebay!
No need for it, this thing could go to 500 or even higher. Of course, it could drop to 8 bucks. Gotta love the stability of the stock market... That's where stops become precious. Two Channel Main

I have been waiting for it to hit a price point to start shorting. It is, and has been trading at a P/E of over 80 for some time now. Way more than any other stock in its sectore, Yahoo is hovering around 30-40. Baidu busted when it blew up to 150 or so after its first day of trading.
Ahh, what do I know? Hell google could reach 800 (ala qualcomm), and start splitting to attract new investors......
For all of you long google....good luck
Scott -
I'll be in touch probably this evening Sean.
Thehaens, be careful shorting this stock. It can be very bad for your health. If you're waiting to short, you're missing the boat, bigtime. Do you only short stocks or do you hit both sides?
I'm never long in the sense of holding over a long period of time. Daytrading options is where the money is.
Oh yeah, it's up to 389.69 as I type this. Two Channel Main

L.S...
No, I am at least 95% long on all stocks I own. The only time that I have ever shorted anything was during the tech wreck, and was covering my position on JDSU. It worked out well for me then. Hind sight, I should of shorted it down a lot longer, but my stomach couldn't take it. I road it up from 22.00 to 120, then started shorting at 85 and got out of the position at 65.00. Of course it hit in the 1.30 range. I am back in at 1.95 on this stock. Which is around 2.40 today.
I will not short google, until it starts getting hit hard. With a stock this big, it takes a long time for institutions to get their positions out of the stock. Hopefully I can get in and ride the wave down for a small profit...

Nope, in my 12 years of trading I have never written an option. However, I have been looking into some "stategies" on writing calls for some monthly income. I was going to save this for retirment, (20 years away), but I have found that a lot of people that have done a decent job in hedging their portfolio by writing calls. So I'll start out slow and see what happens..
scott -
LS, you never did give me the 411 on this.........comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

Brett
Are you looking for info on writing calls? If so it is basically you, the owner of the stock giving someone else the option to purchase your shares at a pre-determined price. There is an expiration date for this option to be exercised.
Example
I own 100 shares of Y corporation and it is currently trading at 10 per share. I write a call for a strike at 11.50. There is someone out there that wants to purchase my 100 shares of stock that I own at 11.50. So instead of him going out and buying the stock at 11.50, he purchases the option to buy the stock at 11.50. He pays you a premium for this option and regardless if the option gets exercised or not, you keep the premium. Say, sometime before the option expires the stock hits 12.00. The buyer may go ahead and exercise the option and buy the shares from you at the price of 11.50. But if at the end of the option the stock is at 11.00, the buyer will let the option expire and you will be in the money, as you already received the premium on the option.
This works really well, when there is a flat market. Although the premiums aren't as high. When the market is bullish, the premiums are higher, but you the owner of stock could lose out on some realized gains if the stock passes the strike price...
I rambled on a bit, and hopefully this makes it somewhat more understanding. There are other ways to play it, like "puts" which are the exact opposite of calls.....

L.S. - Let me know how my explanation was, like I said, I haven't written any contracts, but will someday hedge my portfolio with them.. -
Sorry Brett, I'll fix that. Too many things to take the time to type out, if you pm me your phone number, I'll call ya and flood you with info.
I think you're pretty close Scott, if not dead on. Although, you're talking about writing and excersizing the options. Too complicated for me.
I never touch stock, too expensive. I only trade options, never writing them or excersizing them. I'll throw my explanation as it pertains to me. *side note, call options are if you want the stock to go up, put options are if you want it to go down....call up, put down*
Take GOOG, if the stock is at 390, which it is, the November 310dollar call option is gonna be 80.70ish. If you buy one option contract, that pertains to 100 option/stock shares. That means 1 contract costs you 100 times 80.70. The option part of that eqation means you have the *option* to purchase the stock at 310 dollars, no matter what the stock goes to, if you decide to excersize the option. You'll then have to pay for the 100 shares of stock, and lose the money you paid for the option as you have excersized the option.
If you ONLY trade options, you don't have to pay for the stock. You just buy the 310 option we'll say and hope the price of the stock goes up, the option to buy at 310 will increase in price as it is more lucrative.
Here's where the money comes in. It breaks down like this. If you buy 100 calls, that means you have 10,000 shares. If the price of the option goes up 10cents, you make a grand. Up a dollar, you make 10grand. Up ten dollars, you make 100grand. Trading the GOOG options is very expensive if you're starting out. I suggest the QQQQ options to start out with. The Q's don't move a lot, but they move consistantly. VLO is another good one for options, although the options will be more expensive.
PHEW!!! Ok, I have no idea if I made sense on this or not. Questions? Ask away.
Remember, options have sneaky ways of taking all of your money if you're not careful. How do I know? I've lost everything TWICE! If you're careful, and pay attention to the potholes, you'll be just fine. Two Channel Main

That is why I don't write contracts. From what I can gather, there is 3 losers to every 1 winner in the contracts race. At least that is what I get from Kiplingers, and Money Mag.
I still think it is a good way to hedge your portfolio. I just am not experienced enough in them to devote my time to it.
Maybe when I retire from the Corps, I'll buy a seat on some exchange and sit there and learn about all this stuff, options, commodities, etc..
Scott -
On my end, there is only one winner..and sometimes it's me
Honestly, at the level you are now, you could almost jump right in.
As far as a portfolio, I don't have one. I trade one stock at a time, maybe two. I keep it as simple as I can get it. Less headache that way. I did just get some Dec 400 calls and plan on holding those. It's completely against my trading strategy to hold but I feel confident GOOG will reach and surpass the 400 mark. If it doesn't, hard lesson learned. I'll be sure and not lose my entire investment like I did before. Two Channel Main

Good to go. LS....I agree, like I said I am a lOOOOOONG holder of most stocks. I keep a good portfolio of mutual funds, as well as an IRA, 401K, and the I trade 10 stock per year, (I call this my mutual fund), I have done well, so far, I have bought and customized a 300z Twin turbo, as well as other audio equip. (go figure), but now I have pretty much run out of "playing" money, (at least to my standards), I still hold 10 stocks and then every year I drop the losers and double down the winners and then roll the cycle all over again....
I bought this car in 96 for 19K, and put in another 20K cash, all this thanks to JDSU..
Scott
Don't get me wrong, I have lost a lot on Paper in the past 5 years, but the 90's did me real good -
Awww man, I love those cars. I've never ridden in one, but they look awesome, and I'd bet the twin turbos'll go! Looks nice! Is it mostly a looker or a flyer?George Grand wrote: »

A little of both, it is conservatively modded, stage III, about 320 RWHP on pump gas. I used to show it, she was a trailer queen, but now she just sits in the garage undercover. I am saving it for my son and giving it to him as a graduation present....
Most of the money went into the interior, and sound system. The whole car was gutted inside and re-upholstered, dynamat, putty etc. and then put back together. The entire suspension has been re-done....etc. all in all one of the finest examples of a 90 I have seen, (of course I am biased)

I have taken it to Carlsbad before it closed down. Understand the car is heavy, but it runs steady in the mid 13's on 91 Octane and street tires. I only took it once and my best time for the day was the first run at 13.4.

That is not bad!! Probably looking at a 0-60 time of 4 seconds? That's petty good! Especially if it'll turn, stop, and look good, too!George Grand wrote: »

Not quite 4, closer to 5, it really make big power around 4500RPM, takes a little time to spool the twin turbos then she starts to really put you in the seat. And if you don't know, Carlsbad was slightly down hill. So I would say the car would be in the high 13's on a flat track.......

Little clearing of the table these past couple days. Understandable, since several, several fortunes were made since earnings. After nine days closing green, sometimes very green and opening even greener, we're bound for a pullback. How big? That's the question. Two Channel Main
