Connecting a Polk RM10 5.1 system to a Yamaha HTR-5860 Receiver

Hi--

I purchased a Polk Audio RM10 5.1 system and two RTi10 floorstanding speakers to connect to a Yamaha HTR-5860 7.1 receiver. Now that I'm connecting everything, I'm confused at how to connect the subwoofer. The RM10's manual directs me to connect the subwoofer to my receiver using the traditional red/black copper wire. I was hoping not to have to do that.

Meanwhile, the Yamaha manual directs me to use a sole RCA plug and something called a "system connector" for the subwoofer. I'm certain that is recommended directions for a Yamaha subwoofer, but can I use a 1:2 RCA cable to connect from my receiver to the subwoofer? If not, what is the purpose of the "LINE IN" RCA jacks on the back of the Polk subwoofer?

Also, if I can use an RCA connection between the two units, must I connect the other speakers (satellites and center) to the subwoofer as recommended in the Polk manual? I thought that since I had a 7.1 receiver that would eliminate the need to connect the other speakers to the subwoofer.

Thank you. Any help is appreciated! :)
