my speakers and TV distortion

I own a pair of LSi25's and I have noticed that there are some lines on the side of the TV screen while watching movies. Not really noticable, except when the colors are dark. Its kind of like zebra stripes in the top corners. I thought these speakers were magnetically shielded? I cant really move my speakers any farther from the TV due to space constraints. Will this harm the speakers or the TV? I can live with it for now, since its pretty subtle.

Yes you are right the LSi25's are magnetically shielded, however there is no such thing as a 100% magnetically sheilded speaker. The very operating principal of a speaker relys on a magnetic field for it to function, so there will always be some leakage. This is particularly true of the woofer section. That is most likely the cause. It already has a reverse polarity magnet on it. Some TV's are more sensitive than others to magnetism. It is not recommended that the TV be kept in this state if there is noticeable visual distortion, subtle or not. Unfortunately, short of using another TV, distance is the only cure here.

Thanks for the info Eric. Its kind of a cheap TV, so I'm not too concerned about it as long as the speakers wont be affected. I'll be moving into a larger place this spring and will space the speakers farther away from the TV then.

this could also be an effect called combing i believe. if you take the speakers away for a minute and it still persists then it is most likely this effect. The effect is directly related to certain DVD players. just my 2 cents. After all every little bit helps.

Hmmmmm.......I have a Denon DVD 2900. Not sure if this model causes the effect you have mentioned. I always thought it was an artifact of the TV not being that great....no prgressive scan capabilities for instance.
