Computer problems.......

This is almost pointless to make, except that maybe some of yo can relate......

My computer has been starting to fade (quickly as of late) and it started about 2 weeks ago when the cord was plugged in and (supposed to be charging) the battery was in a discharging state. Then it started to (while just sitting there, not being touched) flip between battery mode, and ac mode....odd..

I went throgh 3 different power supplies (because I bought extras for my travels) and the result was the same. I could sit there, and if i put my hand on the laptop, the power cut out. If I tried to run it with the battery gone and the thing plugged in (like most retailers do) the power would possibly be ok, but then would just shut off. I chose the lesser of 2 evils and decided to leave the battery in there so it didn't completely shut off (that happened a month or so ago and damn near fried the hard drive), so I had to listen to the thing squaking at me because there was under 10% juice in the battery (thogh plugged in).

Basically, got increasingly irked by this and while in my car i started maliciously jerking the cord every way i could possibly because I'd had it. I almost had it hanging by it's power cord and if I wasn't driving down the highway, I'd have flung it to the back seat (still didn't want it out the window quite yet). I beat this little **** down and by some strange act, the power's been solid to it 90% of the time now and doesn't switch arond.......yay for abuse to computers.

Well, then I started having other issues. I would be browsing the forum and all of a sudden EVERY page I'd go to, my computer would just start running to the top of the page. I thoght possible virus, or adaware, so scanned for all and found none. I tried to coerce the up arrow button to see if it was stuck, and it was not. I tried to live with it..........but i couldn't.

I was on (yet another) trip and while it was sitting on the passenger seat scrolling everywhere in Explorer other than where I wanted it to be, I had to beat the living hell out of this POS. SLAMMING, SLAPPING, closed fist knuckle punching buttons, even a cell phone was clenched in hand to beat the $hit out of the up arrow (work cell, trust) to show it what it would really feel like to have the putton pushed.....that didn't work (felt DAMN good though), and in the process I lost 3 of my keys until I finally found them when cleaning out the car a couple of days later.

I now have a laptop that will not register U or M very often, and an up arrow that is non-functional.....at all.

The good news......my laptop stays powered on, and my pages don't scroll unless I want them to........ :D So if you need something fixed with your particular computer, trust that abuse does in fact serve to release your stress, and might actually make it work (thogh I can't guarantee it).

It's moments like this that I enjoy replaying that little video clip that I posted a month or so ago.......**DEEP.........BREATH...........**

Computers make me cry sometimes. :(

Are laptops more of a pain than your desktops PCs? I build all my desktops, but I've wanted a laptop for some time, just haven't pulled the trigger because of the expense of them.

Laptops may appear to be more of a pain than desktops, but it's more because they take a ton of abuse. We have 3 laptop carts here in the school that are handled by high-school age STUDENTS. The oldest cart is now 3 years old and still going strong. All Gateway laptops.

i definately think laptops are much more prone to problems than desktops, i have had my current desktop for going on 5 years now with no problems. i also think building your own is the only way to go...not sure wheather it is the hardware or the software that dell and hp and all put on there but they always seem to have more problems then the home built ones.

The thing with laptops is they're just harder to work on. If my desktop starts giving me fits, I can usually troubleshoot it and replace the problem part with ease - this is more difficult with laptop computers...

from what u were saying about the power switching from battery to ac, the batteryeither needs to be refreshed (completely discharged and then recharged) or get a eplacement one. I have never like the idea of laptops from a hardware standpoint, its like having a space heater shoved in a coffee can, some copmponents generate a lot of heat, and most all of them cant stand any heat whatsoever. then the capacitors get bloated (like a certain iMac), the laptop neither laps nor tops, and u cant get in there to fix it, so u have to ship it out.... if the warranty is still valid...

Sounds to me like the battery has lost it's ability permanently. Get a new one, fully charge it for 24 straight hours. Then, I would recommend blowing out the hard drive and reinstalling everything. Windows is notorious for leaving dead "tenticles" all over which can gum up the performance tremendously. I, personally blow out my hard drives 2X a year at home, and 1x at my school.

I dont' think the problem is with the battery (though it does need to be replaced since it lasts MAYBE 20 minutes on a good day) because with the battery completely removed, the power indicator light would flicker and at some points just power off. I do want to reload the hard drive, and am in the process of offloading everything, but that's taking some time to move 72 gig of crap.
