All I can do is gasp... It is still in prototype stage but was demo'ed at the 2005 Rocky Mountain Audio Feast. It is called the TRW 17 infrasonic woofer by Eminent Technology Inc. It is designed to be used as a IB sub (infinite baffle for those who do not know, but most probably do). They plan on a car version and a more standard box version as well.
This thing is really, and I mean REALLY DIFFERENT. It doesn't use a cone per say, but actually uses "fan blades" which spin and change their pitch angle depending on the signal fed to it. See the links below:

Well, thats cool and innovative and all but whats the point?
Lets look passed the $12,000 price tag and concentrate on you cant hear anything below 15 Hz anyway. Why would you want it?
Again, its damn innovative and took some real brainpower to come up with it just not sure Id want one.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

You can't hear anything below 18-15hz, but you sure as hell can feel it. With the new Batman movie that just came out on DVD, there's a lot of sub 15hz bass in it along with some parts as low as 2hz when the Scarecrow talks. 2hz is getting ridiculous, but it's in there.
The amount of output this thing is capable of is sickening. Plus, I don't think you have to worry about the output on the back of it, like you do with a real infinite baffle sub. I read somewhere that they're hoping to drive the price of these down to around $5000. For that amount of money, and if you're serious about bass, I think it's a no-brainer. -
Exactly. They cited the bass from helicopter blades. Can you imagine watching something like Black Hawk Down with this thing pointed at you? Talk about the brown note!Ludicrous gibs!

Bass is meant to be felt.......period.
My fav movie with helicopter sonds is We Were Soldiers.........good flick.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Mac - Come on, man. Why that kind of attitude? As I recal, you were defending the MTX Jackhammer. Of course you weren't suggesting anybody buy it, you were excited about it being 'innovative' and different - something extreme. Well, this is like the Jackhammer - only it's actually a decent sub. Strike that, it's an awesome sub. If I had five big ones....I think I'd go for it.George Grand wrote: »

From the stereotimes review:
"Issues? Yeah, I got a few. Namely space. This propeller-type sub needs plenty of it. Perhaps a closet or a room unused would prove adequate. The photo right shows the demo unit was in an adjacent room with a enclosure built around it leading to the room where I, along with maybe a half-dozen others, sat and listened in total amazement."
So that is what i can do with that extra room i have... :-) -
Hmm. Something I just thought of. This particular item could be hard on your fingers if you're the type who insists on touching your gear.

Have you ever been to an airshow and felt the shockwave by an F-22/15/18/14/16 passing by after turning with after burners faced right at ya.. ?
This is where a product like this can come in handy... that gut wrenching feeling of your whole body helplessly vibrating and the illusion of the ground beneath you turning to gel .. that is all in the range of this product (sub suplimentor).
This kind of bass is all around us in life and a few media pieces capture it well... While you can't hear it.. you can feel it... damn near taste it..
Thats a good point. Ive never heard one so it may be the coolest thing ever.
But all youd need to do is take one of these, , and power it with one of these, , and for $1500 youd have a setup that would move more air than a wind tunnel!! But then youd have to back your car up into your living room so it might not be for everybody.

That's nice and all but as good as an H2 is, it isn't flat to 1 Hz.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you! -
And I betcha wouldnt be able to tell it wasnt either. These things are capable of punching a hole thru an engine block and I can assure you, one properly powered and installed would deliver more gut wrenching bass than you could ever desire. A new question posed...
why would you need something flat to 1 Hz if you cant hear it?
You can feel 1Hz, thats all great and wonderful, but why does it need to be flat? Can you tell the difference in SQ if you cant hear it?
-CodyMusic is like candy, you have to get rid of the rappers to enjoy it -
Actually, you may very well be able to feel distortion at subsonic levels. It'd be interesting to try at least.Ludicrous gibs!
