Looking at Denon AVR3806 receiver upgrade. Presently have Rti series 8 ohm drivers in 5.1 HT setup.
My question is ......... Would Denon AVR3806 by able to handle 4 ohm drivers if I would decide upgrade to Lsis in the future? The salesman told me it would by fine.

It's not rated to 4 ohm loads by Denon, just to 6 ohm. It will drive the LSi's "fine", just not very well because it's transformer and capacitors are not capable of delivering enough current without distorting. On the other hand, it does work very well as a preamp if you'd want to add outboard amplifiers later to match the more demanding speaker loads.
There are plenty of threads answering this question. It's not something particular to Denon. Most mass market receivers have the same power supply limitations. -
Emlyn,
Thanks for your info. The Sony I have now does not have pre-outs. That is why Im upgrading to Denon AVR3806. Later on I would like to upgrade to Lsis and run them through external amp.
For now I was wondering if the new Denon 3806 would drive Lsis.Theatre System 5.1

the Denon will work with LSI's, just monitor the volume. If you're running an lsi7 system you don't have to be as concerned about the 4ohm factor.

Well if its any conciliation, I use the Denon AVR 2805 (last year's model, a step lower then the 3805) and I've driven an entire 7 channel LSi system off of its internal amplifiers. After prolonged periods of high volume playing, it did get a bit warm, but it never shut down on me. Like someone else said, a high current seperate amplifier will make the speakers shine and bring out the best. And yes it does work nicely for a surround pre-amp.
Give it plenty of ventilation (don't stack anything ontop), use only A OR B (NOT A and for the front channels, and don't get too carried away with the volume control and it will work acceptably.-Eric

I own a 3805 (same amp section as a 3806) and I own LSi's. I have run them directly off the amp and was FAR from pleased. I actually thought about getting rid of the LSi's to get RTi's because the sound was that bad. Now when I added a seperate amp... yummmmmm. The 3806 will make an amazing processor for the money, but don't use the internal amp if you plan on running LSi's. Take it from someone who has them.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
