Yep. $1295 is a little rich for my blood (though do-able), much less 2 grand, although that is an outstanding deal--it's more than I would spend.

You should get one of the ELPs from Tweek Geek for $389. That's a no-brainer and less than I paid for mine used and I still maintain that I got a bargain. I can't see a better way to upgrade a system for less than that, period.

If I do it, I'm going big--no more incremental moves up. Lose too much money going that route.

I doubt that you'd lose any money with the ELP for that price. They are selling them for below cost to get their name out there as a Dodd retailer, from what I understand.

    Hey, Steve,

I talked with Kevin Deal about his line last week. He says he hasn't had a single failure on the Prima Luna gear yet. It is world class quality control!! If your going to buy Chinese, this looks like the lineup to consider.

    It looks nice too.

Jump on that one Russman has. Sure, it's a few dollars more but you will get the same price out of it ten years from now. Just do it.

As one company's advertising campaign once said: "Just Do It!" You need some tubes in your preamp! Go for it and try it out! That Primaluna sure does look nice, but that Dodd RLP looks even better!

Seriously though, Russman's rig is way out of my league fellers. I've got other hobbies to support!

Next spring when tax returns roll in, I'll start thinking seriously about it. The tubed pres are frickin cool, no doubt.

this is good advice on many levels, but going from solid state to a tube pre is a pretty drastic change. I'd hate for you to go balls to the wall and not like it. granted, chances are slim to none that you wont, but the Dodd ELP is a great unit, downright rediculous at 385.00 new. Or, you can go the used route, but that doesnt seem your style from what I remember.

if you resell, say, an ELP. I figure youll take a 70$ hit at the worst. and thats to sell it fast, and, dare I say, hook up a fellow polkie :p

If you hate tubes, than its just something you tried for the sake of our hobby. a small write off.

Yup. If you got an ELP and didn't like it, I might look at takin' it off your hands.

And what's this talk of waiting 'til spring!? Get it NOW!
