Fishing Hole??

First off, I apologize if it seems i am continually throwing a line out here, attempting to catch a good opinon.. I simply am attempting to get knowledgable views that I can respect... and glean a little insight from... Hmm, so maybe I AM fishing... interesting

Here's the scoop. I am debating which route to take in the whole Receiver or pre/pro to drive my HT system. Acutally, I know which route I want to take, but can't afford it at the present moment.

This was mentioned to me from a member here, "The 3805 will be more than the average person needs for a great sounding HT system. No need for seperates IMO unless you really like to listen to your music at obscene levels."

So i started thinking, and wanted to know what you guys thought about this: I could pick up the 3805 alone, and have it run my system. Or, I could save for the 990/ with a nice amp, say the Outlaw 755 or an Adcom gfa-7400 or gfa-7500. The problem is with going seperate, is that i can't get it anytime soon.

So here's the question: Is it insane to buy an older Denon AVR785S ($220) and pick up one of the amps now... and six months, or a year down the road pick up the Outlaw 990? That way, if i did, I could run my HT now, instead of waiting.

Have I lost everyone? Is anyone listening? Am i all alone?!? Damn, hate it when that happens......

You could buy the Denon and if you dont like it...return it. Some A/V dealers might even let you "home trial" the Denon. I have the 3805 and its has plenty of power/features for me. So unless you have very,very,very large room to fill or want to p*ss off your neighbors IMO there's no need for anything bigger. Also, you can always add a 990 later when you have more funds. Outlaw currently has a B-Stock 990 for $1550 shipped on their website.

Depending on what speakers you have....but I would go with the 3805 and be done. I have found that my 3803 is more than enough for HT with my RTi's; I even bought three Outlaw monoblocks for my front stage, and returned them because I did not need them (I know some people here might not agree with this ). If you have a good sub that will take care of the heavy bass, then anything above 75W (from denon, HK..etc.) will do the job just fine.

I would get the 3805 now. See how it goes. If you think you need it start saving for an Outlaw 755 down the road.

There is no need to deprive yourself of a HT just because you don't have the money for separates.

What speakers will you be running with it?

I'll be pushing the RTi8's, Csi5 and SVS 12 box sub. Along with Fxi3's down the road. Nothing fancy.

1. Don't buy the cheap Denon at all.
2. Get the 3805 now, enjoy the HT now.
3. Add an amp next year. if you need it.
4. Sell the Denon to buy the 990 the year after that. If you need it.

The 3805 is very flexible and a great pre/pro in its own right.

I always advise to figure out what system you want to end up with and buy whatever piece of that system you can. The rest will come.

1. Buy the 3805.
2. Later add the secondary amp.
3. If you want to fine tune it even further, than a couple years later you can upgrade the 3805 into a nicer pre/pro.

But for now, a 3805 will be a great match for the speakers you currently have.
