My 20 year high school reunion

Just return from my 20 year high school reunion.

Of the 300+ students in our class, about 1/3 came to the reunion. Most everyone looked the same. Just as predicted, the people who used to hang out together do the same today. Since I didn't go to the 10 year reunion, it's been at least 15 years since anyone from my class saw my face (we had a 5 year reunion in the park). It's surprisinging that several people remember me....even a girl that probably didn't know my existance back then (she probably just saw my "Hello, I'm_____ name tag"). Our class president, who used to be a Congressional page, married herself a Congressman....and he was there at the reunion too. We had our class photo taken again and there was a lot of 80s music being played.

Overall, it went surprisingly well. I was glad to catch up with some of my high school friends. Some of the girls I remember from high school really blossomed (and I mean that in a well-meaning way :D ). The girl that I had a crush on? She was out of my league then and she's still out of my league now (judging from the size of the diamond on her wedding ring).

I am looking forward to the next reunion already.

20 year reunions are far better than the 10 year, when everybody is bragging about how great they are doing. Something about reality and honesty sets in. Just had my 25th, and with one exception (she was always too self-absorbed) I was very impressed by down to earth we all were.

My 10 year reunion is coming up if it hasn't passed already. I was going to go if my sister was going too so I would have someone to talk to. She isn't though. Then I saw that they want $180 a head for the dinner and such. To hell with that, they aren't worth the $360 it would cost me to go with my wife!

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Such old guys you all are... ;)

I bet a 20 year high school reunion is a weird experience... imagine the 50th! ;)

I am actually quite surprised by the pleasantness of the whole thing. I used to hate these reunions because you show up basically to meet a bunch of strangers who you've not seen in a decade or more. However, at my reunion at least, several of my classmates came up to me and we actually had some good conversations. None of my "buddies" showed up though. :( Neither did the school varsity football team QB, who used to have his locker right next to mine....and he was actually a very nice guy.

I didn't feel compelled to attend 10, 20, 30, or 35. If I'm around for 50 then I just might go to make fun of how old they all look.
