HK receiver settings

I am running a HK635 with Polk's all the way around. I have my HD/DVR cable box running to my receiver with optical cable. When I watch TV, I can never use "stereo" settings on receiver - does this have to do with using the optical cable? When I am on various digital or HD channels, my receiver changes to different dolby digital settings, but the other channels it "defaults" to some PL setting, and sometimes sounds funny - so I basically switch to logic7, since I can't use stereo modes. Just curious about my I can't select stereo mode? Sorry for the yada-yada-yada....

I don't know if you can lock onto just 1 type of output. I think that when a channel doesn't have a Dolby Digital signal to provide, the receiver is picking up the Dolby Pro logic II. I do know that you can choose default processing for the signals in your onscreen setup. I would start with the setup in the receiver. No need to change out the optical cable since you are getting sound, just try different settings in the setup.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Have you tried a direct setting? Not quite the same as stereo but similar.
I'm not familiar with HK but my onkyo has a direct setting. I would agree in checking out settings to see if it auto locks into best signal feed. So good luck

Try pushing the "Surround On/Off" on the remote and or the face of the receiver.
The problem MIGHT be because you are using the digital optical, instead of the L/R analog.
Logic 7 is a gift from the gods of Lexicon.
