Well, I decided to get this pre this morning....my wife thinks I'm sick...I have not received yet the GFP-555 I got from George Daniel and already ordered a tube pre...I think my wife is right..
If I had to blame someone/something, the blame would go to the SDA 1B's; since I started listening to these speakers a month ago, I am a different person...and want to get all I can out of them. Some of you think tubes is one way to get closer to perfection... so why not listen to you guys??
Now to the point: I've seen in some reviews that the tubes that come with this pre are not very good; it uses two 12AT7 and one 5Z4P rectifier tube. So here is what I am looking for:
Thanks!!

- I know some forum members have this pre; what have you done? Do you have the stock tubes or changed them? Have you seen an improvement?
- I understand the pre/tubes need to be burned for 70-100 hours, so I am thinking that it would make sense to do this with the "better" tubes instead of doing it with the stock tubes only to see that they should be upgraded. Would you agree?
- Which would be a good tube/tubes to get without spending much? Should I change all of them (I mean the 12AT7's and the 5Z4P)?
Thanks!!

You should be able to pick up a pair of the AT7s from Electro-harmonix for under $40, easy. Sovteks are in the same range. You can get into NOS and pay a little more.
I've had good results with Groove Tubes, I bought a matched pair for the ELP(6DJ8/6922) which sounded remarkably good, right out of the box. That reminds me, I'm gonna put those back in for a while so I can get them burned in good too see how they evolve with time.
Maurice(Organ),
Get this man the links to the tube store or tube depot. I don't have them bookmarked at work."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,
CAUSE I SPEAK OF THE POMPITIOUS OF LOVE" -
First wait until you receive it and see which tubes come stock with the pre. My favorite online shop is www.thetubestore.com I believe they still have NOS Mullard T7's pretty cheap.
Small tubes take only about 50hrs to burn in for my rig.

You see? I knew there was a lot of good knowledge out there.... so two comments in favor of getting some T7's; How about the rectifier tube? Is it that the T7's play a more important role in the sound?_________________________________________________
