Titanic 3disc DVD coming out today. HD transfer, DTS-ES 6.1 looks to be reference.

    Discounting the fact that EVERY teenage girl at the time saw this movie 42 times..... it is actually a pretty well made, entertaining movie.

    Hmmm ... I think that the copy that I bought today is faulty. Cut disproportionately at both the top and bottom and I recognize that parts of the movie both top and bottom are cut off. Aspect is set correctly and all of that. I'll have to dig a little bit to see what's going on. First time this has happened to me.

    Not trying to insult your intelligence, but maybe it's merely the Widescreen 2:35:1 format? If so, that's normal. Check your screen settings in your DVD player. If you've got a 'normal sized' Television, put the DVD player 4:3Letterbox (not 16:9)

    Onward...

    My demo discs for sound were The Two Towers (dolby ex) and Gladiator (dts-es)- with Panic Room Superbit carrying the Video flag. Not anymore.

    The DTS-ES soundtrack on the new set is the best i've ever heard. Totally immersive. The picture quality, while not besting my Panic Room disc, comes VERY close.

    The special features were pretty good 2.

    I found both audio and video to be top shelf on this. It is very impressive. Looked almost hi-def on my 85" screen. Well done!

    ok. just got done watching the ENTIRE movie (I mean movie PLUS special features) for the first time in eight years. I wasn't crazy about it on the big screen, but I am now.

    This DVD has by far and away THE BEST DIRECTORS COMMENTARY EVER! Jim Cameron is a genius. Period. This was superior even to director Sam Mendes commentary in the American Beauty DVD. Every doubt I have ever had about this movie (either fiction or historic) since it's inception in 1997 is now gone. G O N E. When i watched the movies in theaters, i thought it was decent, albeit bloated. Not anymore. This is what *modern day* cinema is all about.

    Jim Cameron is my favorite director by far!

    When this movie first came out I thought it was just a chick flick but when I went to see it with me mum and sister and liked it a lot and quickly bought it when it came out on VHS. Ill definitely be buying a copy of this one.

    And Kate Winslet is an absolute DOLL in this. Probably my favorite female movie character of all time (shes got a nice **** too-love the "drawing" scene)!

    is this movie "widescreen" or "anamorphic widescreen"? i've found that with regular widescreen dvd's, my dvd player does some wierd stretching/squeezing to these movies forcing me to have to play with my tv's zoom feature, thus losing picture quality. examples of this are the dvd's tombstone (russell,kilmer,paxton,etc), the siege (denzel washington, anette benning), and heat (dinero and pacino). don't think i had this prob with my non-upconverting progressive scan player.

    the new 3dvd is anamorphic, or 'enhanced' for widescreen tv's. It will look stretched if your dvd player is on the "16:9" mode and you don't have a widescreen tv. If you have a traditional 4:3 box, just make sure the dvd player is set to "4:3 Letterbox"

    mine is being delivered to me as we speak by my girl. heck, i'm too macho (or so i think) to walk into best buy and make the purchase. almost like buying tampons. i feel unsettled at the fact of even admitting i loved this movie.

    loud & clear, i pretty much bought this movie to help you out (or so i tell myself). i just popped the disc in and there are no problems with anything being "cut off" or "cut out" of the picture. just those ordinary "widescreen widescreen" (call the copywrite and patent offices) blackout bars. maybe you've got yourself a defect there. i don't own the original dvd, so i don't know if it is only 16:9 or what not, but whenever transfers, well, transfer, you tend to lose or gain field of view. may be a normal occurance and not a defective disc.

    do i make any sense? :o

    BIZILL,

    I have a widescreen 16:9 HD television with the aspect ratio of the television set to 16:9.

    The Denon 1910 is set to 16:9 also. The Denon sends either 480p, 720p, or 1080i, all of which is controlled by a button on the front panel of the unit.

    The top black bar is roughly 3 & 1/2 inches, while the bottom black bar is roughly 2 & 1/4.

    Looked at the VCR copy in comparison with the new 3 DVD set, and there's no question that I'm losing material both on top and on bottom. I knew just by instinct that something was wrong, people's heads aren't supposed to be shot with the mids of their foreheads being the uppermost that you can see of them. It just looks wrong. This is the first time I've viewed a DVD that's done this.

    i did notice that in the beginning when the rover cam diving deal thinggie was seeking out the safe with the heart of the ocean, where it said camera one, it was half chopped off. other than that, nothing else seemed to be cut away. but i did notice for the first time my svs's ability to "walk" all over the place. the whole chapter/s when the titanic sank really allowed my sub to push the limits. normally 6 inches away from the wall. woke up to find the sub up against the wall and smashing my rca and power cable to the unit.

    Yeah, this is an old thread but I have been watching this movie on HBO the last couple of days and had forgotten how good this movie really is....even for a chick flick.

    I think Im going to have to go buy this DVD set for my collection.

    One of the bloopers Id forgotten all about until seeing it again. When they first spot the iceberg, the guy yells for "hard to starboard", which is right, but the guy behind the wheel turns the wheel to the left and they turn left. Then he calls for "hard to port" which is to the left but now he turns the wheel to the right.

    Still, an excellent movie and Kate Winslet was awesome. I fell in love with her for this performance and because of it even went out and rented Sense and Sensibility.....but only watched in once. :D
