ok, new to this club, probably posted my question in the wrong place.

I'm in germany, left my sda-2a's in storage in colorado, shouldn't have. :mad: has anybody out there mated a carver sonic holography receiver w/conventional speaks, if so, how's the sound /imaging? can't find any sda's over here, considering lsi 15's. thanks.

as far as I know, the sonic hologtaphy technology was made for use with conventional, as opposed to SDA speakers. sonic holography and SDA try to get to the same goal using 2 different technologies, so, in a sence, it is more of a replacement for SDA. Just make sure the Carver reciever is OK with 4 ohm loads, because, as everyone says, those LSi's can be a **** to drive right. Its a Carver though, so its probably good with 4 ohm loads.

I have been told the Sonic Holography works, but the sweet spot is rather small. Again its just something that was relayed to me.

Been there, done that. Yes it works well but not as good as the SDA's.

Where did you say those were stored?

I've had both before, to me sonic holography was very close in effect to SDA. The particular setup I had with the Carver had the speakers about 15 feet apart however (large livingroom). The sweet spot is a bit more limited with holography.

co. springs, and no, will never get rid of them. in fact, just scored some bookshelf sda reference srs' off ebay and having shipped to tide me over since i'll be here for three years . so i have another question. will they work well with a powered sub or need it, or will they affect the sda effect? thanks to all.

ich bin in stuttgart, danke. i'm a civvy working for uncle sam. bought my sda 2's in 1987 at hahn air base for $700. actually wanted the "big boys", but the frau balked. can afford them now, so hopefully there will be some left when i get back to the real world, and my hearing holds up. : > )

I know a little Deutch. Been to Stuttgart at least 3 times since 2000. I've spent a lot of time in Karlsruhe. My wife and I are going to move there eventually.

There was someone in Germany that has some SDA-SRS's, but I can't seem to find his post. It has been some time ago. If I remember correctly, his user name was "german".

I've got a pair of Monitor 7b in my bedroom being driven with a TFM-25 and a C-1 pre. The imaging is sweet using the SH. A lot of depth.

I was driving KLH Model 17s with a C-1 pre-amp. The SH worked good but you need to have the rig set up so the tweeters are at ear level. When I was using them, the tweeters were above my head because I honestly had teh bookshelf speakers on a bookshelf in my room at my parents' house. Hey, I lived with it.

I have 2B's now though and the Carver is sitting on a shelf. I like the SDA idea better. It seems to have more substance. Listening to the SDA idea and then to the Carver SH idea, the SH seems contrived compared to the SDA. Probably because the SDA idea is done with speakers and crossovers at the output stage and not the signal level at the input stage. I like the Carver though and will use it again eventually. I need to go through it though. It has some dirty pots in it and I'm getting the left channel cutting out every so often.

With your CRSs, it all depends on how much bass you like and where they're being placed as to whether or not you'll need a sub. The sub will not mess up the SDA performance unless it's a friggin giant that sits between the speakers and interferes that way.

Have and use both SDA & SH via a C-9. The SH works quite well but I give SDA first place honors.

Also using the small SDAs in a small room system where a sub isn't needed at all. In a large room a sub would most likely be a nice complement.

My .02 is, it depends on what you are powering your CRS with. A receiver or low current amp might make you want to add a sub for watching movies. The CRS opens up with a high current amp. Are you familiar with how the CRS stands look like?

If you get the opportunity, take a weekend getaway to Fussen and visit the Neuschwanstein Castle. This is the one Walt Disney imitated for his Disneyland castle. Try and ask a native about the back entrance to the castle. It is a nice 15 minute walk through the woods with a slight grade next to a river. This beats the hell out of the main entrance with a tar road, horse carts, and crowds of people. Take a good camera with you, this area is very scenic. The Austrian border as I remember is 15 minutes from Fussen. I spent a week there with a German friend and it is one of the most memorable getaways in my life.
