I recently purchased my first Home Cinema system. I use a Marantz SR5500 receiver, four Polk R30's and one Polk CSI 25 center speaker. My question is the following: The lower frequencies are very poorly represented. Did anyone experience the same problems? What's the solution? If i need to add a subwoofer, which one shoud i use?

yes...definatly it's good you have at least towers....

You need a sub for sure for movies and for the r30's most likely a sub for music too.

SVS will be recommended for sure but I have no expereince with it personally just overwhelming support on the forums from members.

HSU is another one that will pop up as well.

Polk subs are not on par with other similarly priced subs. Again no personal experience with any of these.

Based off your receiver I would think you should spend more money on speakers and a sub.

    Good luck

    Welcome to the forum.

The R30's would probably be supplemented very well with a subwoofer.

What is your approximate budget for the sub? I agree that SVS and HSU would be good choices, but they can be a bit pricey if you don't have the budet for them. The only recommendation I would give at this point would be to look at subs other than Polk. They make great speakers, but their subs are a little on the lacking side.

Hope you enjoy your new system.

Thanks for your replies. I already had my doubts concerning Polk subs so i will be shopping around for another sub. I've also read some reviews about yamaha subs which seem to be good value for money so i'll have to do some listening.
