I've done alot of research on this receiver.
All i've read is how good it sounds; how great the tuner/phono preamp section is..

You should be very happy, as the old Fisher tube gear is top notch equipment. Let us know what you think about it once you've had a chance to spend some time with it.

    Congrats!!!

Fisher was acquired by Sanyo 30+ years ago. Since then, Fisher = Sanyo.

I finally got the unit home and after letting the receiver warm up for about an hour i tested the receiver with a few cds.
All i can say is that thie receiver ROCKS.It sounds sweet, laid back and very detailed.
Even the fm tuner sounds great.I heard great detail on my cds and the fm tuner.
My dilemma now is that this is my 1st tube audio gear and i want more.
I just can't believe all that i've been missing all these years listening to solid state devices.

I'm currently listening to this receiver with my sda srs 2 and wow the speakers just seem to disappear.Tubes seems to give music a wider soundstage.more space between instruments.more resonance between each notes played.although i hear some white noise with no source material playing, once i have music playing it sounds as if a veil gets lifted from the speakers.as if the noise floor i hear on ss seems to dissapear.

In regards to other tube gear, I just recently got a musical fodelity x-10v3 tube buffer, with the psu v3 power supply and the dac v3 for the cdp.
I haven't gotten a chance to check it yet.
I believe the x-10 is supposed to give ss a tube like sound.
anyone out there familiar with this equiptment/company?

This is coming from someone who has halfway decent ss equipment.
I guess i'm going to have to upgrade. maybe a tube preamp and a ss amp or a ss preamp and a tube amp or maybe tubes all the way?
What would the tubes gurus out there recommend in regards to brands/models?
The seller of this receiver suggested i start with a hk citation 2 tube amp.
    Any suggestions?

Since you said you already have decent SS gear, I'd start with a tubed preamp or an integrated tube amp. Those are going to be the most bang for the buck, imo.

I'm going all tube very soon. :)

I think you got tube fever..............put together your CDP rig with the tube buffer,DAC and SS amp compared it to your 500C.

You've got enough toys, you just need some playtime.

i have the X-10v3 and it sounds very nice between the cdp and preamplifier or between a ss preamplifier and power amplifier.Experiment a little and try both configurations and decide which way sounds better to you in your system.thanks....WCW III

    Will do ;);) .
In regards to tube amps and preamps, What do you suggest i start looking into?
I usually like to research things to death before i buy in order to be sure i'll be happy with the results.
I'm not a big fan of integrated amps. I'd rather get everything separate.

I guess that 2006 will be tube gear year for me  .
