My 86 year old Mom in Law needed a washer brought upstairs so she doesn't use the stairs anymore. I helped my brother do the plumbing and venting and I did the electrical work.
We bought a Maytag stackable washer/dryer combo and it is nice. Runs silent and the only thing you hear is the water sloshing gently inside. Man it's a nice unit. Too bad she didn't need a new stereo it would have been even more enjoyable to use and listen to.
