Why? WHY?! WHY?!?!
When those a-holes in Hollywood make a movie out of a video game WHY in the f**king hell cant they stick to the story line of the video game?!?!?!? What the hell possesses them to rewrite the story that made the game a hit?! I mean if a video game is successful enough to be made into a movie its because the original story line works. Why do these idiots feel the need to change it?
The story line in the game is UAC on Mars conducting teleportation experiments created a portal to hell which unleashed hell into the base.
The story line in the movie is UAC on Mars conducting DNA experiments turn people into monsters.
Which sounds best to you? Demons are cool. Portals into hell are cool. Mutant people are boring.
The movie by itself is half decent and worth renting but not seeing in a theater. But as a die hard Doom fan this movie was a total let down.
The casting was horrible too. The good thing was all the Marines were'nt a bunch of pretty boys but they dont look like Marines either. The Rock is getting better in his acting but is still in no danger of winning an Oscar.
The action was ok although there wasnt enough of it. It reminded me of a poorly made Aliens. God Im pissed off. I knew this wasnt going to be a great movie although I held out hope but I didnt think theyd stray so far off the great plot that helped make Doom the greates game ever.
Bottom line is to wait til this hits the $1 theater or the $1 rental bin. Its not worth seeing at full price but its action does make it worth a cheap rental when you cant find anything else to watch.

Sure there is and a pretty good one too, especially in Doom3. They actually hired sci-fi writers to develop it and its pretty sad when video games make better movies than movies do!

It really doesn't have much of a story man. It's a shallow premise, there are no real characters or any kind of development. Simply a 'why we are here' and it doesn't go much beyond that. This was destined to fail.

saw it sat. night. was not so great. not terrible, but not great. i'd say 5/10. i dug the 1st person thing a bit. but like macleod said, any longer and it would've gotten old real quick. none of those characters would ever make it into any type of armed forces, not even in the future. and who in the hell would want to get "high" while hunting down mutants? i'd want all my reflexes to be there with me. wouldn't wanna dull them.
