is there any advantage/disadvantage to using coax vs. optical cable from my dvd player to my Dolby Digital receiver (or vice versa)???? Just got my Denon and am re-wiring-I have the option of either of those cables on the back of my dvd player. Im wondering what choice to make

no problem, there may be a few more that i missed, try a search and you may find some more...

sounds like coax is the way to go..as far as durability..and if the sound difference is that slight its a no brainer decision

that's my feeling on it...

you put a coax and a optical next to each other and i bet you can't tell the difference. this thread has been brought up so meny times is sick. and the durability factor you all talk about, are you guys pulling the connection out everyday or something? i just don't get it.

Scott-Im assuming (because I am new to Dolby Digital hookups)that the optic cables are similar to the fiber optic cables we use in the computer industry..if they are then they are very subsceptible to damage..I know..Ive earned some good overtime repairing these cables when they do get damaged..if there is no sound difference and price is about the same then why buy the less durable of the two even if you never mess with them?

Both are good, depend on the quality of the cable you buy, if you buy a decent one, you should be happy with it for a long time. Which one you should buy?, if the distance less than 6ft, coax is good choice, more than 6 ft, go for the optical, in any case do not go beyond 12 ft...
