I was listening to the Cranberries and Garbage tonight it got me to thinking of other female lead singers of otherwise male bands. Who is your favorite for whatever reason? (looks, voice, the band, etc...)

Gwen Stefani of No Doubt

Delores O'Riordan of the Cranberries

Shirley Manson of Garbage

Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders

Debbie Harry of Blondie

And maybe the first - Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane

There are others like Natalie Merchant of 10,000 Maniacs and Coutney Love of Hole (she was probably more famous for Kurt) but these are enough.

My favorite has to be Shirley Manson. I'm a sucker for redheads, I love her Scottish accent, she can rock and she has one great singing voice!

Shirley Manson's hot! I've always loved the "I'm only happy when it rains" video.

My all time favorite female vocalist has to be Janis Joplin. She gets a bad rap, but my GOD. That woman can sing. The only female singer that can come close in intensity IMHO is Bjork.

Chrissie Hynde is no slouch either. And while I feel obligated to like Grace Slick, I couldn't care less.

It would have to be a "sentimential" choice since she is now 62 and not rocking much anymore.

Seen the Starship once a pon a time, and the above statement through me off my square. Grace Slick was Brash, She was Bold, and she knew how to take charge of the audience. Watch some videos of the Airplane/starship and you'll see what I mean.
For Sentimental reasons got to give her my vote.

This is the problem with female fronts. I watch **** with my eyes and listen to music with my ears. For the betterment of both, seperate the two.

I like some of the female rockers mentioned. Not many thou.

But the list is not complete without Pat Benatar and Anne & Nancy Wilson of Heart. Those three women rock harder than anyone on the list with the exception of maybe Chrisse Hynde...with Grace Slick as a good choice too.

Other good choices have to be Sheryl Crow (the Globe Sessions), and Melissa Ethridge, (Yes I am).
    PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
